I am having an intermittent problem with my fuel pump. At first I suspected that it was going bad, but now I am not sure.

I will drive SHO for a while. Turn off the engine, and when I try to start it again, the fuel pump wil not buzz and the engine won't start. Sometimes it will sputter and die as the pressure in the fuel line is enough to get a burp out of it.

I have bypassed my inertia cut off switch, but still no buzz from the FP. Eventually after 5 minutes to as much as 30 minutes the FP will buzz and the engine will start immediatly.

So far my car has not stopped while it is running.

I was going to change the FP, bu I suspect that it migh be something else, since the pump seems to work fine once it kicks in.

Any suggestions?

It's hard to say whether it's the pump failing or if there could be a problem with the relay control module atop the radiator. Those 2 parts come to mind as the most common cause for no prime.

Just went through a similar problem on our 93 ATX.

The fuel pump relay, located in the CCRM was cutting in
and out. What you need to do:

- jumper the fuel pump test prong on the EEC connector,
to the ground, with the key on. the pin is the bottom right
(with four pins facing down). This should run you fuel pump.
If this works, then the pump is ok.

- get the car to stall, after it does, do the same jumpering
procedure, if the pump doesn't run, most likely, its the relay

if so, your best bet is to go here and wire an external realy
like so:
