Fuel Pump Problem HELP!!

My '93 MTX is not wanting to start when cold and does not run well when it does start..Checked the Codes and 3 codes came up. One is PIP circuit failure which just hasn't been cleared, I already fixed that. The other 2 have to do with the fuel pump. Do I need to change? I bought the car used and I don't know if it has been changed yet. Car has 132K. PLEASE HELP!!

DId you change the cam sensor for the PIP problem? If not, it usually sets codes for the fuel pump.

You clear the codes by unplugging the jumper while the EEC test is outputting the codes.

What were the fuel pump codes?

The codes were 542 and 557. One was for Low speed primary fuel pump circuit failure. And the other was Fuel pump secondary circuit failure.

The 542 code is "Fuel pump open, bad ground or always on." That would probably not allow the pump to run at all. Did you mean to write 524, "Problem in low speed fuel pump circuit?"

How does the fuel pump sound when you turn the ignition key to ON? It should run for about 2 seconds and give a steady, high pitched whine. Any gurgling, struggling or unsteady noises would indicate the pump is on its last legs.
