Not sure if this is the right place to post this, and if it isn't, please move it. When I got home from work today, I walked to the back of my car with it running and I can hear the fuel pump. It kinda sounds like an older GM truck or SUV, where you can always hear the fuel pump even when they're working fine. Is this a sign that my fuel pump is about to say game over? It doesn't stall or surge, still has power and doesn't cut off in upper RPM's. If it is going, how much time do you think I have before I'm on the side of the road? I researched the method on here about replacing it and it doesn't seem too bad. Thanks for any help. Its greatly appreciated.

I've never heard it before though. Sometimes I will get a long start in the morning or after sitting awhile. I'm not doubting you at all, just worried because I'm taking a trip to North Carolina soon and I don't want to be on the side of I-95.

You may just have a dirty IAC or something?? There are quite a few things that could cause a hard start. Is the battery getting old? Are the cables getting corroded? (esspecailly in the middle of the wire where you can't see?)

FTW, my old 94 mtx was over 200k, and the fuel pump still purred like a champ! It wouldn't hurt to change the fuel filter tho...

p.s., whats the mileage??

The only codes that I have are for the DPFE, and the purge canister solenoid. I did have O2 codes, but I replaced the sensors on Monday and cleared that code. As far as the battery, its about 3 months old and cranks really fast. I'll have it tested anyways on my way home from work today. The cables are not corroded on the battery, but I wil check the whole cable later. My SHO just turned 116K, so I hope I still have a lot of life left in it. Its my daily driver and has been very good to me. Thanks for all the advice so far.

Many ATX SHOs got the weak standard fuel pump from the factory,it has a hard time keeping up with the motor when new. If your getting a decent amount of noise from it and your having long starts Id say its time to change it along with the fuel filter.
Some noise is normal but Ive got a Walbro 190 in mine and you really cant hear it except just before start up when it primes.

Where did you get it and are they expensive?
