So I have looked at meth and E 30 tunes and as I'm vested in LMS I am looking for more track 1/4 times. LMS will not give e30 without the HPFP and the meth tune is not much past it for 1/4 times. I'm looking to get in the mid 12.5 ISH... I know the H and R springs add a bit to the times but it seems many are making a bit better time on the e30 v meth.... this is the problem meth kit form LMS I like as it has all the problems figured out. And other tuners can make it run in the low 12's all be it more meth dependent.
so at this point I'm thinking go with the LMS meth kit and see what I get for 1/4 times and then change tuners if I don't get the 1/4ets I would like.... Or start with E30 tune?

Intercooler......

Hey Matt,
Is there a link with an intercooler install I could check out? I'm thinking about taking it on after my doc says okay. Would the 'cooler be a segway to an E30 tune?
Thanks,

I must be blind. I don't see anything for the intercooler on Gearheads website. I'm sure there's a thread or two here I could review so I don't ask redundant questions. Please share if you know. bp. I'm curious about mods after the intercooler and accompanying performance improvements.
Thanks for the link, with my recent back surgery, I'll have to find someone to do the install for me if I decide to pull the trigger anytime soon.

Either way you will not be losing, all options brought up in the thread are good choices, The HPFP allows you to run our custom E30 tune similar to what SBS is running that you see him post about quite often and would ticket you the ideal times you are looking to run.

Yes, I do run a custom E30 tune from LMS.. the base E30 tune they send out netted me a 12.799@108mph at the track. DA was 1000 that day iirc temps in the mid 80's... mods at the time were 3BAR, Firestorm HPFP, 160Tstat, and Airaid Intake. My 60ft time was in the mid 1.85's.. There is a post on EBPF with all the details...

With 70's outside temps and HR springs netting a low 1.8 60ft 12.5 is easily achievable.

I have had both the LMS Meth kit and the HPFP setup to run E30(which is what I currently run). Here is my take on the two options...

With LMS the meth kit has always been a solution to offset the lack of available fuel with the stock setup. The by product of cooling the charge is where you see the extra power. Point in case, LMS will not tune your vehicle to be dependent on methanol. I have datalogs and information showing what happens when you turn off meth the LMS tunes, and its perfectly safe at least on their 2010-2012 tunes. People have seen a few tenths off the 1/4 mile times just by cooling the MCT's significantly. The negatives with the kit is you are adding an ADDITIONAL pump to maintain, adding another reservoir to house methanol, and the installation is significantly more involved than installing a HPFP. Additionally the standard settings are OK at best, but to really optimized the kit, you will need to tune the methanol controller for the tune you are running which would be the ramp, initialization, and gain of the methanol controller. That said, a lot of people have success with the standard settings.

Any tuner will tune for the LMS Alky Control kit, and with basic bolt ons, and an aggressive meth dependent tune, low 12's are achievable, however, you will be dependent on methanol to increase fueling and octane. If something happens in the middle of the run, there is a good chance of damage. However, very few people have had that happen.

For the E30 tunes with a HPFP its MUCH easier to maintain, install, and keep running. The install for the Firestorm Pump or any HPFP is about 10 minutes.. I have a detailed write up on how to do it on the EBPF. Mixing in E85 to get E30 with 93 pump has proven to really REALLY be an effective fueling solution coupled with the HPFP. If you purchase the GH intercooler with it, then you get significant IAT drops that is ALMOST as good as what meth is able to provide with the stock IC. There are people running high 11's with a good E30 tune. I know some of GH's customers are seeing over 500tq/500hp at the wheels with the above setup. There is nothing to really maintain with this setup and its just making sure you are fueling correctly. This is why I have gone the route of E30 as its just soo much easier and I don't need to worry about an issue with the meth pump or lines. Its pretty much a set and forget solution. However, it does cost quite a bite more to go this route... Meth Kit is about $1K (and I would ONLY get the Alky Controls kit as it has been proven time and time again to have less issues than others) where as the Pump and IC together are gonna run you around $2400 but you get a set and forget solution that thus far is producing better results.

Tomorrow I am going to be putting my car on a dynojet to run the GH E30 Tune and the LMS Custom E30 tune I have to see where they are.

Nice post BJ, only thing I noticed I would be that most, if not all METH users have seen an average of .5 to .6 FASTER in the 1/4, not just a "few tenths" as you say.

The difference between .3 and .6 is HUGE.

Just a counter point of clarification my friend.

That figure is heavily dependent on the tune... if you get it dialed in and dyno'd at the vendor, I suspect .5 is a good starting point... just a slap and run would get you a few tenths... BamSHO is a bit unique... in many many ways...

It's not just BAM_SHO.

There have been plenty of instances, prior to your return to the platform (even before your SteelBlue purchase), where the #'s I've stated, are accurate and were achieved by many. Myself included.

It's not just a fluke.

I went 12.56 at 108 on just a E30 tune on a stock intercooler in the 90 degree heat. I also had a documented boost reference line that was not connected, and the ECU was throttling it back. Probably would have gone a 12.40. That is just and fast as a meth tune car.

I didn't have to worry about leaky pumps, lines, filling up meth, meth controller failing...ect.

BJ is correct. E30 is set and forget. Test the fuel once in awhile (I do every fill up, takes 2 minutes literally) and follow the info that is in my E30 calculator on my phone. The E30 cars are faster and more reliable, and flat out work.

BPD, like I said before...with all of mods you have and upgrades....you will be a corn fan soon. Mark my words.

Resistance is Futile.

Just curious. Do you have to do periodic emission checks?
