How easy is it to change Front struts in a 2013 Taurus. I want to install some upgraded ones ?

Really easy since it it a 13. The whole lower brake/spindle assembly is held in place by the two spindled bolts that attach to the strut itself. I removed my tire, brake caliper, caliper bracket, and rotor to make it easier on the passenger side, but left everything intact on the drive side (tire was removed), and just muscled it in place. Remove the two splined bolts on the strut and spindle assembly. Run the nut flush with end of the bolt and smack the crap out of it with hammer. It will be pretty hard. I used my mini sledge.

Splined

You will have to remove the strut brace and remove the bolts form the top hat of the the strut in the engine compartment. Pretty easy. Once those bolts are out, just pull the whole strut assembly out.

Stock Strut

This is what it will look like, when the strut is out.

Front Taken Apart 1

Swap the springs to the new struts (this is a good time to upgrade to the H&R springs), and re-install in reverse order.

Ok thanks the pics are a big help. I plan on buying the H&R springs with the new struts and swapping everything out as a unit

Because the rear will toe in and your rear tires will not be flat. You will rear out tires more quickly.

The camber bolts bring the spindle assembly back to "square". You need them.

First of all, thanks for the details and pics, i might do mine soon. But I have a question, why does it matter that it is a 2013? Are pre-2013 models appreciably different? More difficult in some way?

Yeah us 2010 guys aren’t so lucky. I just did mine about a month and it sucked. But car handles much better now. Both of my front struts were bad as well.
