Front Speaker Depth

I know this has been asked and I did a search on the forum. But I can't seem to find out the actual depth of the front doors for speakers. For example, some comments have been that 6 1/2 will fit ( Crutchfield) and others say only certain ones will fit. Also would I be better going with 5 1/4 as some have suggested? Any and all help would be appreciated.

And they fit fine in my 89's front doors shrug

I used to think that only a few 6.5" speakers would fit. What it really is is that the bracket for the speakers limits how big the speaker basket can be. It is NOT a depth issue, with a custom bracket you can fit speakers that are about 3" deep. Without custom brackets only certain speakers will fit. I recommend some infinity reference 605cs components as they fit really nicely into the stock bracket and sound good.

I used to have these in my 89: Pioneer REV TS-D160R 6-1/2" Speakers
They fit with no problems into the stock brackets

Thanks for all the help. I would prefer 6 1/2 but didn't want to buy and then have to start over. I have been cruising Ebay and plan on picking up a pair after I check the depth. According to my research the door can take up to 2 3/4 inch deep.
