Front brakes gring/grunt again

At 21,000 miles I had TSB 10-17-03 performed (FRONT BRAKES - INTERMITTENT GRUNT OR GRINDING NOISE ), At 42,000 the problem is back.

Since I am out or warranty now, I want to address the issue myself. If the pads or rotors are the problem I will upgrade them. Suggestions welcome on aftermarket upgrades.

But, mostly I am wondering if anyone knows what role the Brackets (BG1Z-2B292-A Right Bracket SHO and SHO PP & BG1Z-2B293-A Left Bracket SHO and SHO PP) play in this problem?

Will these need to be replaced again? Or is this simply a matter of lubing them properly and checking the pads & rotors for wear?

Don't know about SHO, but on my Flex, I replaced the rotors and pads with high perfomance ones, and at 53K I have never had an issue, though I didn't before I upgraded either. My front pads are Stop Tech. Wanted EBC red... but they were not available for months back in 2010. Like the Stop Tech pads from Auto Anything, and the slotted rotors I got from TireRack.

Bet new pads & rotors will solve your problems!

Thanks Bob, I suspect you are correct about replacing pads and rotors. I appreciate the suggestions.

The part numbers for the brackets appear to be caliper mounting brackets (supports). Since this only happens as I let off the brakes when coming to a stop, I was thinking they need to be lubed. Weird that Ford replaced them in that TSB and now it is happening again after 20,000 miles.

I had changed my pads+rotors as well on my 2010 with OEM Motorcraft ones and the grunting went away! So, I think the brackets won't present an issue.

It'll likely return.

I went through 3 sets of rotors and sets of pads, all OEM, and each set was horse ****.

Now that I am out of warranty I ditched the OEM crap.

I recently went to EBC Yellow Stuff Track & Street pads, and Power Slot, cryo-treated slotted rotors.

Great results thus far.

I did the same and went with front powerslots and ebc red pads when my stock rotors warped on me, in-between the replacement time and now I had a front ps wheel bearing take a dump. The result? The powerslots are power warped. I'll be trying out the ebc slotted rotors all the way around this time out.

All good info. Thanks guys. Feels like brakes to me, but waiting until a tad warmer to tear into them. Twice in 42K miles doesn't bode well for oem. Those Powerslots are expensive, so I will choose carefully.

Often "warping" is not really warping, but hot spots created by hard use and the metal being "hardened" where the pads are resting after a hard stop. This creates high and low spots as the brakes continue to wear. Why the problem can quickly return after the rotors are machined.

The undersized brakes on this car probably contribute to this problem.

My front rotors are Power Slots, and rears are same w/o slots ( don't make them for Flex. Love my Stop Tech front pads, but would have had EBC Red's all around if they weren't on indefinite back order. Have them on my one G8 and they work great. Need a set on G8 #2!

On my 4 original SHO's back in early 90's, had many warped rotors.. Ford dealer admitted that the originals were same as reg. Taurus, but the replacements were different... If you warped them they put better one's on back then... But most people didn't warp them, saving Ford big $$$$$.

If willing to separate rotors/pads, can get rotors from OnSaleTruckParts for $285 shipped. So that'd drop your cost to about $380 or so with pads from a different retailer.

'11 SHO Newbie looking for harder pedal & less fade

New to SHO (love it) but soft brk pedal and poss fade in hard traffic stops needs attn (no track work). Any suggestions from experts? Car guy many yrs, former Mopar, but this SHO w/20's is exc otherwise. Heard '13s have larger master cyl which wd certainly give stiffer feel. Ford mech showed me how pedal continues to move when pedal pressure maintained hard, said some kind of intentional "bypass" in system (not a MC leak) and is "normal"--maybe due to limited strength in pedal linkage? (have adj pedals, needed for tall legs).
