i installed new pads yesterday and ran into a problem, with the pads in the bracket it was nearly impossible to get the calipar completly over them and bolted to the sliders??? once i was able to do that this caused the bottom of the metal pad backing to rub the hub/center part of the rotor. i've done a thousand brake jobs on other cars and i've never seen this! the clips on top of the pad just get flattened down when you put the calipar over them, correct? why is there no bracket/pins to keep the pad against the piston?

Did you open the bleed ****** and compress the pistons back into the caliper?

Regarding the rubbing, it sounds to me like you used 598-series pads for the 96+, which are taller than the pads for a stock 95. Either that or they're just not seated properly in the caliper.

I asked for '95 pads for my SHO but the Napa autoparts master part list was wrong. It listed the 598's as the proper pad for the 95 taurus but it was actually the 601 (or 602?)

At first we thought it was crappy aftermarket fitment. So we did some grinding because the pad was very close to fitting. Then i decided to repaint the pad (It was red and i painted the areas that we grinded) and then returned them. I also contacted the company and they informed me it was the wrong part number.

why would you open the bleeder to compress the caliper?if you do you risk getting air in the system use either a c clamp or wp pliers and apply presure slowly so you dont blow out the boot

the wagner pads are pd 601s

the fluid should be fine ive never changed brake fluid in any car ive owned unless i was doing lines or master

Opening the bleeder prevents blowing sediment and other crap out of the caliper up into the master cylinder. It also helps cycle fresh(er) fluid into the caliper. As long as you close the ****** before releasing pressure on the piston air won't get into the caliper. The assumption is that one has a small amount of talent in doing this, which shouldn't be too bad of an assumption for someone doing their own brake maintenance.

it's easier opening the bleeder screw(assuming it doesnt snap off) but i use a tool made for pushing in the piston, works great.
advanced does infact have the part number wrong. went back today with the box they gave me
