I have a "clunking" noise coming from the passenger side front axle, only does this after the car has been driven a few miles. The car is a 93 SHO mtx with 186000 miles. The axles, CV joints or boots have never been changed. Boots look real good, the joints seem to have no slop. There is no grinding noise from the hubs. All the struts and the brakes and tie rod ends have been replaced within the last 5000 miles. Is this the typs of sound that a axle would normaly make when the CV joint goes out? Or is there something else that I sould be looking for? This is the only front wheel drive car that I own or have ever owned.

Thanks, Allen

the cv it self should not clunk, however ther eis a intermediate shaft on that side with a bearing, make sure it hasnt come loose, when does the clunking happen most? under load ,turning, hitting bumps ect ect.

The noise happens in turnning, mainly to the left and sometimes when I feather the gas it will do it. I will check that bearing tonight, I had it loose when I put the clutch in it about 30000 miles ago. Thanks

Clunking while turning a certain direction is a common failure for an outer c/v joint.

If you can have someone outside the car while making the turn's they can more than likely pinpoint which side it is coming from. :)
