I ended up installing it AGAINST the natural curve of the professional landscape edging (how it was rolled up in the box) because of the 3/4 inch lip. How did you guys that have done this deal with THAT lip? It looks OK I guess:

I cut the bead off of the edging on a table saw. I think what I am calling the bead is what you are calling the lip? Then remove the back reinforcement piece if it is in the way.

I've noticed the new stuff has a arrow shaped edge that goes in the ground. What I use has a V shaped edge.

yeah, I cut the bead off too. I noticed Larry kept his (convention pics). Look "different". I was undecided, but with the bead, I thought I would be scraping EVERYTHING... so I cut it.
The lip I am referring to is on the other end. It is where the edging is folded over about 3/4 of an inch...(and it is the end that is made to go in the ground)

That is the end I "keep". I trim the edging to fit and use that V shaped end as the bottom.

Now go get you some black satin "Fusion" paint and spray it. I did that and it blends in well with the car (mine is black also). I found the edging to be not as black as I wanted, but after painting it, it looks like it belongs there.

Dang that looks good. Tried to do it myself a while ago, I tried to cut the lip off with a box knife, razor blade, not much sucess in making a straight cut though. Whst did you use to cut your off with?

Im going to have two weeks coming up with nothing to do, no work or school for the first time in years, so Im going to go nuts on my car. This is deinately one thing I want to do. Cant beat the price/coollookiness ratio.

Hey I think I just made up a new word .

Take care all,

brian

The only paint I've seen stick and look good is the black rubberized bumper paint and it needs to be redone once a year. It's just when it wears off or chips it isn't as noticeable.

I tried regular paint and it does not stick and you will need to repaint once a month or so.

The best way to cut this in a straight line is on a table saw with the blade mounted backwards. It takes two people and it makes quite a mess too.

Use some sort of adhesion promoter (aka bully dog) first and them paint. Normally 2 coats of the bully dog and then a few coats of paint. Its been used on all sorts of non metal/fiberglass products for years. :thumb:

Looks good, i wonder if theres any way to mount it so you dont see the dimples in it? I have wanted to put something like that on mine though, i wonder if its look okay on a GEN II?

the dimples are pretty hidden... I was standing in my driveway, which is downhill from my car, when I took the pic.
I used a box knife on my first try at cutting off the bead :laugh_ti: I literally butchered the edging! Good thing it comes in 20 ft. sections. My second attempt was on a band saw. Took my time, tried to keep a steady hand, and it went MUCH better ;)

Professional Landscape Edging at Lowes/Home Depot. ~$12.
There is also something VERY similar, but it is much more flimsy. It is ~$6.

Paint it with "Fusion" satin black and it will look even better. I did this a while back. I left the bead on mine, made the dam lower to the ground and makes it more rigid as well, plus the bead is what scrapes so it is pretty durable, I like the look. I used a comb-like trim knife to remove the plastic anchor flashing for a snug fit.
