Say a little prayer for my SHO. Its 3:30 am and I just finished the front 60K. It took just under 3.5 weeks but its done. I'll start it in the morning. Oh yeah... it is morning! I'll start it in a couple of hours when I go to work. Why 3.5 weeks? Long story but ... I ruined two seals putting them in and I can only work on it Sat and Sun mornings from 6-8 am. Tonight I was anxious so I pulled an all nighter to put it all back together.

The SHO is on the road! I drove it in to work this morning (26 miles). No stutters, no lights, its good to go. It cranked kinda weak but probably because it sat for so long. I don't know how old the battery is either. All of this started because it died on me on the way to work. You guys told me that it was probably the CID or CPS. I replaced them both and did the full front 60K while I was at it. It runs great now. Thanks for all the help!

The thread that started it all

the first time i did a front 60k it took about 3 hours, just make sure the parts store gets you the RIGHT seals, a standard seal will not fit on the crank which is a metric seal. they also tried telling me it needed 4 cam seals, not 3.

3 hours. I must say thats pretty impressive! :hail: If you can do it in three hours, either you have a shop, or you should. It took me 3 hours just to put it all back together last night. I had a lot of trouble with the tensioners, though. The seals that I had were the right ones. One cam seal went in a little crooked and I didn't notice until the one side kinked. :cuss:

When I put the crank seal on, I used a pipe that was too small and tore it in the middle. :nono: I ordered another one and it went right in using a 2" PVC pipe. I also spent a lot of time cleaning up the engine compartment. 118K miles and I don't think it was ever cleaned!

I got about 45 minutes sleep before I had to get up for work today... zzzzz
I'm draggin now...

i used a peice of pvc pipe the correct diamater (i still have it around somewhere) and used a prybar to press on it and it went pretty painlessly. before then i heard the rear cam seal was a bear, but it seemed to go pretty smooth for me.

Same here. 1.5" for cam seals and 2" for the crank seal. I ruined two because I'm an idiot, not because I used a pipe. Yeah. The rear cam seal was pretty easy for me, too. In fact, the easiest one with the other problems I had...

So....
The Alternator belt tensioner is capable of rubbing the battery!??? What the ****!?? I didn't realize that the tensioner was rubbing my battery and now I'm leaking battery acid all over the place. What a mess!!

I am sooo pissssed offff right now... :madflame: :shakehead

Now I have to replace the battery and tighten up that tensioner more than it needs to be. I can't be the first person this happened to.

I had that happen to me, but only because I have an UDP on my alternator. (Gee, why is my car so hard to start suddenly? :bonk: ). The quick solution is a belt about 1" longer.

I also have the UDP but I didn't know it until the guy at Autozone said that it was. He has 4 SHO's and he's gone through 7. I guess I should get the longer belt.

What kind of HP gain do I get from the UDP. I also have the SHOShop Air box and exhaust system. The thing rips pretty good. I think it can hang with my LT-1. The only thing is, those tires like to spin with FWD.
