Alright, so my girlfriend is going to be gone all night at a friends b-day party, and I have the apartment to myself. I've been needing to get the intake off for a good cleaning, just haven't had enough time to do it.

How long does it take to dismantle the intake, clean, and reassemble? I can remove and replace the intake rather easily, but never have taken it apart.

The reason I ask: I don't want the g/f coming home with me in the middle of the living room with a few cans of berrymans dumped into a 5 gal bucket and a toothbrush scrubbing the intake runners on her carpet  . You know, that look a g/f or wife can give you that makes you feel like a puppy that pooped on carpet?

I figure as long as i have a couple windows open, and i keep the berrymans inside of the bucket and not on the carpet, i'll be fine..... It'd be funny if she called me to come pick her up early, I could tell her, sorry babe, i've got the intake of my car torn apart on our livingroom floor :D !

I've got the whole upper set of intake gaskets from Napa, but I don't have the connecting hose gaskets with the clamps, but I'm thinking that if I use some **** WD40 or something, those will slide right off. The last time I took the crossover tube off, the clamp gaskets came right off, without any signs that they would tear.

Would Napa or any other basic autoshop have the Motorcraft thermostat for the Taurus? I don't know if I need to change mine, but it seems that the coolant temp has been acting wierd lately. I don't know if i need to just replace the ECT (which I have onhand), or the thermostat, or if it is just running warmer because of the weather. I dunno cuz last week I was out toolin' about town, and looked down and noticed the temp needle reaching the line above N, just below the Red! I parked it, popped the hood, and could smell coolant. I don't have any leaks anywear, but I could definitely smell hot coolant. It was a very humid day, so I don't know if that has any part in it. Anybody know what is goin on?

Check your coolant level.

Good luck cleaning the carpet!

With B12 you can simply spray it and it'll take everything off in it's path pretty much. You can also spray it in the intake while the engine is running. It's best to do it at almost every oil change as the intake can get very dirty, quickly.

coolant level checks out, color is good, smell is normal, no leaks, waterpump doesn't leak. The only thing I can think is that is probably a combination of the ECT and Thermostat being old. I dunno. When I had the cooling system flushed in the spring, the mechanic didn't say anything about the thermostat being bad, but I also wonder if he even checked it. The ECT doesn't look in too bad a shape, but who knows.

Well after the berrymans the carpet would be clean :D and deodorized :D The more I think about it though, my girlfriend is tough when she is ******, and she hits hard....I dunno if I want the smack comin down on me for making the livingroom my garage...I'll think of something.

Lol, reminds me of when I refreshed my mtx. I waited till everyone went to bed and started disassembly on the dining room table around 10:30pm. I had parts spread left and right, synchros soaking in ATF and tools everywhere. I spent all night on it watching Josh's video. I finished at 6:00am just as my 9 year old brother came down the stairs. No one really knew what happened.
