Thinking about buying one to keep the oil from dripping onto my freshly repainted oil pan... are these OK to use and not a joke? Also what size should I buy and what's everyone's opinion on them. If you don't know they basically allow you to not have remove your pan bolt to change the oil you just hook up this hose and it has a valve that lets you drain it in place(~$13 walmart). Let me know.

I've heard that the oil drains out pretty slow with that thing. And it probably wont work if you have a SHOshop y-pipe(no room). Other than that, it sounds like a good idea. They should have a book on the shelf at Walmart where you can look up which size fits your car.

This was discussed last fall in this thread: http://www.shoforum.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=17;t=004356#000016 You will find some opinons and experiences there.

I haven't tried one of these in my SHO (yet), but I had a similar device installed on my 93 Explorer for about 6-7 years and over 100K miles. Like the Fram unit has been described, it did cause the oil to drain slowly, but I always viewed that as a time to take care of other maintenance items.

It drains plenty fast enough. Yeah, it slows down the drain a bit but not enough to make a big deal about it. If you have a new style shoshop y-pipe it won't fit (well, it will fit but you wont be able to fit the drain adapter on there). I still have mine on and I'm going to probably have to unbolt my y-pipe to get it out of there. There is another drain device with an on/off lever that costs about twice as much and might fit with the y-pipe. Then again it might not.

If i knew how darn slow this thing is, i would have used my money to buy an oil pan instead. Unless you have no garage or parking lot space whatsoever, (like me, im a college student living in a dorm, and i need to drain oil into milk jugs) then get the oil pan at pep boys.

Are you sure you're tightening the drain adapter onto the drain plug tightly enough? I have several of these Fram Sure drains and the only time they're slow is when I don't tighten the drain ****** on there tight enough. Maybe you've got a faulty drain ****** (look at the wire that's inside of it). I bet if you call up Fram's support number and ask if it's supposed to be so damn slow that they'll send you a new drain ******.
