Hi all!

Just thought I'd post this for the group's info. I was finally successful in locating a Ford performance shop that will work on 2010-19 SHO's on the Central East Coast that has Ecoboost experience. The business is....

FAST Performance
Nick Curtain
132 Business Center Drive, Unit D 13/14
Ormond Beach, FL
(386) 383-1440

It's primarily a Mustang shop, however they got a really good recommendation from the folks at Parker Performance over in New Port Richey. I spoke with the owner, Nick and he verified he can work on the SHO. I'm bringing my 2013 in on Monday to address the problem I have, the passenger side turbo is slowly weeping oil & causing engine compartment smoke from one of the oil lines where it meets at the turbo body.

Thanks
Eric

Also being in the Volusia area this is great news, let us know how everything goes Monday might have to keep them in mind for future reference! I used to go to the beach in Ormond every day after high school, I need more excuses to go out that way anyways. Best beach in CFL.

The initial visit went well, their labor rate is $120/hr and they charged 1 hour for diag. This is a really heavy performance shop, when I got there I counted probably 10 Mustangs between the two bays and the parking lot. They were preparing to install a PARACHUTE on a tricked-out Caddy CTS-V that sounded like a monster after they were done with my car. Schedule-wise they run 1-2 weeks out, so plan your time ahead. It's in the middle of an industrial park so no food or convenience stores within reasonable walking distance and only a very small office area. Plan on dropping your car if it will be there for a while.

So, it turns out that my passenger-side turbo is actually playing Mr. Leaky and does need to be swapped unfortunately. I'm going to use a factory reman unit from Rotomaster as opposed to a used turbo or a brand new one. 25% the price of a new turbo plus 5 hours for the R&R (they use AllData for estimating book time). At the same time (scheduled in for Monday) I'm going to do a plug refresh & have the PTU inspected & the fluid changed. Keeping my fingers crossed that the grey sludge-monster is not present, the last owner had to change the PTU and for the life of me I don't know where the refresh unit that was installed came from or how many miles it had.

We'll see what next Monday brings, wish me luck!
Eric

most times, if you find the ford dealer inadequate, you can turn to lincoln dealers instead. if it is a joint operation, make sure you talk to the lincoln advisor and tech specifically.

OK folks, this is a follow-up on Fast Performance in Ormond Beach, FL. My car now has a brand new reman passenger-side turbo installed. I've been driving 43 years now (yeah, I know I'm dating myself here) and I have never, ever met a more through, conscientious Ford technician than Nick. He's very patient explaining problems, recommending solutions based on experience, and also patient & supportive with other staff members and garages he deals with. He's very courteous & professional at all times, does an extremely through job on the authorized work, and has very good expertise in all things Ford performance related. He's very meticulous with completing repairs in a timely manner as well as scoping out the engine for other potential problems. He found a very small pinhole leak in my upper radiator hose (feed to the coolant overflow tank in the hard plastic section) after he completed the turbo job where it wasn't immediately obvious and replaced the hose before he'd call the job finished. His billing is very fair, my job did go over the allotted hours (defective Banjo Bolt on the oil intake line bit the dust when torqueing and the R/R of the rad hose) but he stuck to the original quoted estimate on hours even though it cost his shop money. In conversation his business is growing at a rapid rate mostly in part due to previous customer & other shop referrals. This is a person that takes immense personal pride in his work and giving the customer a fair deal. Again they use AllData and have a $120/hr labor rate.

If you are in North or East Central Florida, this is THE shop you want working on your SHO. Ecoboost is not a challenge for this shop at all, they stock many of the needed materials for routine services immediately on-hand and there's a decent network of supply houses fairly close for other needs. He also has a relationship with a neighboring dyno shop for tuning time and dyno pulls if you want more HP. If you have to overnight for any reason, there's a few economical hotels just up the road at the intersection of US1 and I-95.

The only thing I'd suggest is if it's a complex repair make arrangements to drop the car. Most of the space is taken up by the shop bays and unfortunately they do lack a decent waiting area. There's no food within easy walking distance since they are in an industrial park, so it's Doordash or Uber Eats if you want anything. They do schedule 2 or more weeks out except in cases of emergency, so do make sure to plan your schedule with them out in advance.

HMU if you have any questions. I'm really glad I found this shop, whether it's Turbos, PTU's, 3.5l timing chain and water pump replacements, motor rebuilds, tuning with dyno, they've done it all. And have a devoted following to-boot!

Thanks
Eric

Tell Nick to duplicate himself and move to South Florida - specifically Palm Beach County. :)

Just did my PTU maintenance up at Fast Performance earlier in the week, $135 out the door for the PTU service. Had a 9 AM appointment, I showed up on time and they were ready & waiting for me.

The fluid exchange took about an hour with the PP PTU, drained through the drain plug, filled through the vent tube. I'm very glad I did it when I did as the oil came out flat black, however there were no particles or shavings in the fluid, no gloppy chunkies, a bit of fuzz on the drain plug magnet which cleaned up fine. I also did plugs & coils while I had the car in there. Again top-notch shop, friendly, knowledgeable folks. Very glad to have them available within reasonable driving distance!
