I've been reading up on the fog light switch mod, to allow the fog lights to be on when the parking lights are on, but when I looked at the wires behind the switch, they did not match the diagram at SHOTimes (different colors). Has anyone done this to an 89 (or other year the digram does not match)? If so, how is it done?

All you need is a $3 relay that taps into one of the parking light hot wires to power the relay and connect to the battery for the feed through power. Then when ever the parking lights were on the fog lights would be on. Very easy and unless you want them switched you wouldn't even need to do anything at the dash.

If you do want it switched just use the OEM fog light hot wire to use as the feed through power on the relay and then the parking light hot wire to power the relay. Then you could turn the fog lights on and off with the fog light switch but the parking lights would have to be on for the fog lights to work. Either wouldn't involve going to the switch in the dash as all wiring would be in the engine compartment.

Theres an easier way to do all of that, Basicly its just like the one on shotimes. You need a hot wire tester to do this, because I cant remember what the colors I spliced together. Turn on your pkinglights, test the wires to see what wire has the power to the foglight switch, then snip that wire. Then turn on your headlights with the fog lights off, and see what wire has the power, snip that wire, ad tape it off, you will not be using that wire, Then turn the foglights on, and see what wire has power, then splice that wire, and the parkinglight wire togther, then you have the fog light mod,. thumbs_u

Yes that will work but using the a relay takes the load off of the headlight switch and MFS. And give full voltage to the lights.

Relays are really easy once you've done one.

Pat -

I did this on my 89 a few years ago. I added a relay so I could run a higher wattage fog light (100W). In 89, they did not have a relay to power the fog lights, so the power flows thru the switch to the lights. The switch can get really hot! Also, I changed it so the fogs come on with the parking lights.

If you want, buy the relay and I could help you put it in. Things are kinda slow now that my SHO is put away for the winter.
