Not what your thinking...

I went to go swap wires for the mod... but i accidently put the wire that came from the dash to the top wire...

So i removed it from the top, and put the one from the switch to the top.. (the right way) but it was a no go... i then noticed that i didnt have dash lights at all....
so, im thinking i may have burnt the switch up.. go pull the one from the green car. put that in, with it wired up correctly(for the mod), and still no dash lights.
(rewind a bit)
I happend to do the same thing to a buddies car, and found out that if you hook everything back up (stock) and connect the 3rd wire to the 1st wire, you get your dash lights back and everything works...

So, i hook it all back up, and connect the wires... now i have it back to stock... fogs only on with low beams... and i have dash lights.

What exactly did i do?? i dont think i blew a fuse, as then nothing would work... and i dont think i screwed a relay up.. cause well it wouldnt work either.. plus i can hear the relays switching.

Cant believe i messed up something so simple .... agian!!! :slap: :slap:

are you modding the foglights to have them be able to be on when you have the highbeams on or for them to be on as a standalone with your headlights off? each has a different wire hookup. i think you may have wired the one backwards. i had the same problem and turned out i wired the thing in reverse.

it shouldnt matter....

they can be turned on with the parking lights, and they are left on with the high beams. atleast thats the way it was on my 93....

and the only car that i know is different is the 89's....

there is only one way to mod the foglights.. which makes both of the situations i listed possible.

i wired them standalone with no lights on and the wiring is different. i've also modded it in my 94 for the parking lights but that wasn't the one with the dashlight problems. did you cut the wires or just use a quick-splice to merge the top and middle wires (1 + 3, can't remember colors). also if you checked all fuses, double check fuse #13. sometimes it looks ok but there can be a hairline break you have to look close for (or use a fuse tester). i blew #13 the first time i tried the parking/fog light mod but at first glance it looked ok.

hmm.. might have to go look again...

but if it were blown, wouldnt the lights not work at all??

I cut the 3rd wire. and spliced into the 1st wire. But as it is now, both wires are connected togehter. 1st and 3rd are wired up the stock way, but just connected together. thats the only way i can get dash lights....

yeah, that's what i had to do after blowing the fuse for some reason - put it back to stock and use a quick-splice to put 1 and 3 together. if i tried pulling 3 out and attaching it to 1 it would blow it again. must be some weird short somewhere cause the second time i tried it on a different car by cutting, no problem. but i recommend the quick-splice anyway as it is way easier and a fast put-back to stock if i decide to sell. does it work alright the way you have it set up now (on w/parklights)?

edit - about if it's blown and the lights not working at all... i think i remember from diagrams that the fusebox is cross-fused for some things. especially the radio/keyless/mirrors/interior lights and the dash/fog/switch/head-lights (i know the radio and keyless used multiple fuses). that would explain why the lights may stay on in regular beam but go off in highbeam cause it switches from one fuse to a higher rated fuse.

usually the dash lights wont work when the tail lights are in-opp. Just an alert to the driver is what its purpose is.
