flush coolant

hello.I want to change and flush my 95 3.2 atx coolant.I'm thinking about using the prestone flush kit.The one where you connect a t-fitting to the heater hose,and use your hose to flush it out.The problem is,I,m not sure which hose to connect the t-fitting to.There is 2 hoses.One goes to the thermostat housing,and the other goes to the engine block.Please help.Or if someone has a different method,I'm open to suggestions.And my overflow coolant tank is really boogered up at the bottom.I plan on cleaning this out.(any suggestions)thanks for helping

I would open the petcock at the radiator and drain the radiator. Remove the lower radiator hose and drain the coolant out of the block that way. Hook it back up and run a garden hose through the radiator until it starts to come out clear. Remove the overflow bottle and wash it by hand (garden hose would be fine).

Fill it back up with 50/50 mix or use distilled water and coolant.

Shouldn't take more than two hours or so.

I hope its not freezing outside. :)

Now, THAT would be interesting! :nut: As we're expecting 6-7" tonight. Good thing I got the salamander fueled up to work in the garage tomorrow.

!Always make sure the cooling system is not hot/pressurized prior to opening it!

The basic coolant flush procedure I use on all my cars is pretty easy (based on an old ShoTimes posting from Gary Morrell).
1. Drain rad (bottom of rad, drivers side )
2. Pull lower rad hose from rad and drain what ever comes out (PITA on SHOs)
3. Pull Tstat, reinstall housing - without Tstat!!
4. Pull upper rad hose from rad.
5. Put garden hose into upper rad hose and tape in pace with good ol' duct tape.
6. Place buckets under upper rad port to catch flushing overflow
7. Turn on hose and flush until clear.
8. Drain rad again, lower rad hose, and put Tstat back in. Reconnect upper rad hose

Fill with premixed coolant (50/50 for warmer climates, 60/40 up my way).
Start and run for a few minutes, refill rad as needed. Fill overflow bottle. Check it for the next couple days every morning to make sure the overflow bottle is full enough.

Always dispose of coolant properly - our local paper says flushing into a treated sewere (not septic) is OK.

YMMV, AFAIK, WIFM, etc

I use the Prestone kits on my SHO's, it's a lot easier than what is suggested above and works better. The hose you need to put it on is the one on the drivers side. :thumb:

Prestone kit all the way. Much easier and you dont have to remove any hoses, just slice, band clamp, and go. Remeber if you or any of your neighbors have pets to not let the coolant puddle up anywhere, including on the street if you wash it down the driveway. I had a couple of 5 gallon buckets and would fill one up with the runoff while I dumped the other one down the toilet and switch.
