Ok here's new developement...

The car runs fine at all speeds except idle at a stop light. When I stop at a light the oil pressure light illuminates briefly and then goes out. Occasionally it will flicker while I'm stopped as well. As soon as I start going again it goes out and doesn't come back on.

I got an oil pressure swith\sending unit and will be installing that tonight.

Thanks

If the oil pressure switch doesn't change anything, its time for new rod bearings. If you change the switch and it is still flickering stop driving the car, or else you stand the chance of doing irreparable damage to the motor. How many miles on it?

Rod bearings

I just changed the rod bearings about a week ago. The car has about 155K on it.

Sounds like depleted oil. My car had the same problem, and now I'm in the middle of a head swap. I had coolant getting into my oil, making it thin out. My crankcase had ALOT of fluid in it, and it was very thin and dark. Is the car making a sulfur'ish smell when you get on it? (the gas I mean). Do a compression check. If you do have head damage, you might as well do your piston rings, cause they're probably in poor condition from the problems. To do piston rings, you have to undo the rod caps, and once the heads are off push the piston up out of the block. RCM Automotive on eBay has a good deal on the clevite rod/main/thrust bearing kits for 124.99, and piston rings for 89.99. Better than NAPA and a better brand too. I just ordered all my parts from them. I do HOPE your problem is substancially less severe than mine. Hopefully the part you got is the problem.

Change the oil first off. If you got anything in the oil pan during the rod bearing swap, you mave have left something in there that degraded the oil. If your crankcase is over filled when you drain it, time to think a little harder on what's wrong. Pull the dipstick out and check the consistency of the oil.

Oil

Thanks for the input.
I don't think there is a problem with the oil. I checked it and it appears ok. No extra fluid or any obvious problems. Not sure what to do now. I changed the sender (what a pain in the (*&) and it's still doing it.
