I have had a bad misfire on the 91 for several weeks. It sounded like a 5 cylinder and could hardly take off from a stop. It turned to be both an electrical and a vacuum problem.

I checked each of the plug wires with the timing light and they all were getting sporadic spark. I decide to replace the coil pack since it was easy and I have a spare. I was getting ready to remove the coil pack when I noticed the metal strips underneath each mounting screw. I guessed they might be a ground path, and the bolts were loose. Once I tightened them, the engine started running much better, but still not perfect.

I pulled the intake manifold to check the back plugs, and when I was putting it back on, I had to adjust the side brackets. They were mounted too high and lifting the manifold off the heads a little causing a vacuum leak.

I can't believe how much better it runs, I was so close to having a sho bonfire.

You remove your intake to replace the rear plugs? In this case, It sounded like it worked out for you but it certainly is not needed. Congrats on getting the car running well again. :sun:

X2 on not needing to pull the intake to check the rear plugs. Just need an extension or two for the socket.

I take off the secondary canister and bracket for extra room though.

I am a barely competent mechanic who just keeps stumbling along. I will try not removing the intake next time, I just not figure out how to remove the plug wires, I could not get enough leverage.
