First year production numbers

Kirk, I'm thinking that the production number is for the chassis, so that would include any vehicle that shares that chassis. Mine is 106787. I got it on a dealer trade from a local dealer on 9/30. Actually, I wasn't even looking at buying a new vehicle. I was at the dealer and stopped to talk to my buddy... he let me take an SHO out for a spin... it was all over after that!

WOW thats odd ****! that means that 3529 Taurus, SHO, MKS, non S lincolns were made in 5 days!.

They were rolling with them weren't they?? When my father worked at the Norfolk Assembly Plant building the F-150s years ago, on a good day they were knocking out IIRC 60-70 trucks an hour. And they had 3 shifts going strong. Of course that was for the best selling truck in America so they probably upped the ante (sp) to get em all out.

for some reason in kansas i see allot of new shos about a 1/3 of the tauruses i see are SHOs

Mine was built on 9-15-2009 and my 6 digits are 114413.

I just called and ordered my certificate. My last six digits are 114658. Mine is number 2,650 of 7,114 and was built on 9-9-09. It is also the 405th Ingot Silver SHO built of 1,070 in that color.

I'm not sure I have the correct number batch, but if I read it correctly from the window sticker........

My last six digits are 101727.

The sticker also indicates "built at" Chicago on 06 17 09 which doesn't make sense to me but that is what it seems to say.

I don't think the window sticker number is the build date. It is probably the shipped date. My window sticker says 9-22-09 and the build date from the certificate is 9-9-09. Your car was probably built prior to 6-17-09. I thought production started the first week of July, 2009. Maybe yours is a pre-production SHO they use to test all the line operations. Just guessing.

Wel, I suppose it would be worthwhile to spend whatever it costs to get the certificate just to validate the VIN, build date and my car's place in the line.


Could be interesting if mine was a pre-production vehicle but I am not counting on that. On the other hand, I am told I got one, if not the first one, of the 199 Lightnings that arrived in Georgia in May 1999.

As posted elsewhere, I never had one single problem with that truck of the many that later had problems and that was after some pretty hefty mods.

When I get the certificate, I will post it here.

Bill, whats your last 6 of your vin? that tells you where your car placed down the assembly line.. If the full line of the current chassis being built.

I doubt you received one of the pre-production cars Bill. I drove several of them last year before they were released and they weren't supposed to be sold to the public, but either destroyed or parted out or kept for testing. A quick way to verify that I can remember, is pop your sunroof up. If the webbing on the side is rubber-like, then its not. The pre-production ones we drove had a felt-like material up there. There's probably more other notable differences too, but damn if I could find them. Sounds like you had good luck with your L too. I remember many problems with the first batch of them. You musta received a middle-of-the-week truck. Do you recall your build # of your L?

As a BTW, I volunteered my Lightning as a test bed for a Chip Vendor in FL when it was brand new. They didn't take me up on the offer but I did do some stuff with Mike Troyer over a couple of years to develop a 3 position chip that worked well with the technology of that era.

Gotcha! Thats cool about the L and your early build date for the SHO. You're reading the exact same area I was reading on my window sticker so unless someone says other wise, yours is a really early build. Don't know if thats good or bad though. And the last time I "willingly" volunteered a vehicle to be a test mule for a product, it took a right good while before I got it back. Isn't it crazy how much technology has changed since that 3-position chip came about? I still have one of those and an old a$$ MAF extender from back when for my L.

The paper size is 8.5" x 11". Makes it easy. You could cut it down to 7.75" x 10.25" before you would cut into the actual cert., if necessary.

Make sure you read it. My first one said it was made in Atlanta
