If you are particular about what you want as far as condition then you have to really expand you search to find one. THis is true for most low supply vehicles. I tried locally but most were beat up and the search was taking too long so I went to RI for one vehicle and IN for another
Well road trips almost make it more fun anyhow! Haha, truthfully these 4 cars down in TN seem to fit the bill. After speaking with the son, then the dad, he bought them from a collector, adding 3 to his 2 already. One became parts car, then was sold. 1 he has owned new since 89. The other 3 sounds like really good cars, and he’s a enthusiast himself, so you can ASSUME, they’ve been maintained. Or hope so!

Spending more for a well kept and maintained car will probably save you more money in the long run. My first car was in Colorado and I flew there and drove back.

Alrighty, the guy with the ‘90 model, sent me some more photos. Thing is CLEAN!!
Also, just saying “after we took off oil pan, we felt play in the bearings”

Which I feel like is vague!
I will attach said photos anyways…

Why did they remove the oil pan, did they hear a knock? In the third picture, the tire looks flat so did they stop driving it because of that?

I noticed what looks like a flat too, and exhaust seems to be off, which makes sense to get the oil pan off. One thing that I asked is what led you to removing oil pan, he originally said when he bought it he assumed a timing belt probably, then it turned out to be “play in bearings” … another deal is the pictures he’s sent, the car is in different locations on his property, so either he starts it and moves it(which assuming no due to the oil pan may be off still) or pushes it. So I’m awaiting a response from him.
If I feel comfortable enough I may haul a trailer down there & check it out.. but so far I’m very very iffy, overall very looks good. Just looking for some definite info on bottom end problem.

The only time you notice play in the bearings, without opening it up, that I am aware of is knock or low oil pressure usually both. Yes you have to drop the y-pipe to access the oil pan to get to the rod bearings.

Right, so the original “timing belt issue” was just weird, unless the person who sold him the car said the timing belt is messed up or something, and he knew right away that there was an issue in the bottom end.. he replies slowly so I’ll be waiting
