So heres the scenario...I took off my intake manifold and rocker arm covers in order to get at the gaskets. Replaced thos using ultra black silicone gasketsealer...When I put the thing back together I started it...(Fired right up, athank you). So then i saw a bit of smoke. No big deal its just burnin off some chunder. Right? Wrong. Im drivin to work later and boom, fire. I put it out quickly but it charred some eletrical connectors and some hoses. It looks like it started near the Exhaust Manifold....Any Diagnosi?

It's most likely an ATX and you most likely unseated the gasket in your attempt to clear the EGR valve when reinstalling the cover.

Fire is unfortunate, but it sounds like it is fixable.

I had a similiar problem with my valve covers. The seal didnt seat right so oil got out though I didnt have a fire. Just take off the intake and valve covers and seat the gasket properly and you should be fine.

This engine is DOHC engine, not a pushrod engine. There are no rocker arms. Just to let you know.

If you replaced the both valve cover gaskets the rear gaskets are notorious for shifting position while trying to get the valve cover in position. Like posted before, they most likely shifted position and created a major oil leak in the rear dripping on the exhause manifold and causing your fire. Best of luck fixing your problem.

Give me a call on sunday. I'll see if I have a chance to run over and lend ya a hand with whatever you might need. Depending on the year/transmission you have I might have wiring harness stuff you can have to help get your SHO back on the road.

I PM'd you my phone number in response to the PM you had sent me.

cool enough. I should be around most of the day on sunday, though not to early in the morning cause I'm hoping to finish up the clutch in my winter beater tomorrow night after I get back from RI with whats left of my black 93.

I have a wiring harness for a 95 ATX so that won't help you out any, so you may need to track down a 5/93-95 MTX harness from a parts car. Cars made after 5/93 have a 120amp alt, and they have a different harness than the 89 thru 4/93 cars.

I seem to think that some parts of the atx and mtx harness are shared but I'm not 100% sure of that. I'd put out a WTB for a 94 or 95 MTX engine harness and main wiring harness and see what you can get one for.

To me it sounds like a perfect time to find a 3.2 for a 3.2 swap :)
