I just finished installing my SPEC stg 1 in record time. The problem is it is hard to get the transmission in gear. The problem seemed to start when my last clutch blew. Do you think it is the transmission, or is the clutch not disengaging enough?

could possibly be a stretched clutch cable and its not disengaging the TOB all the way? Or the internals on your tranny might be shot?

I know my tranny is hard(er) to get in gear at higher rpms when shifting fast but i think i need a freshened up tranny. damn, do i hear quaife calling my name? :naughty:

I would maybe try a new clutch cable and see if that helps, you would be ****** if you remove the tranny and rebuild it and then its still doing it. :nut:

Not going in to gear, means your disc is not releasing, i would not think this is trans. related, as it anything was junk in there, you would probably have other issues. Are you adjustments in the clutch correct (the lift the pedal and clicky clicky) The cable is a good spot to start after the adjustments. Also the ATF type, many people complain of crap shifting on different fluids. Im sure you dont want to take that out again.
Also what is your record time to have the trans all the way out. I had 13 hours just to get out. Myself, and in the rust belt (if you could immagine)

Have you adjusted the clutch, i.e., pulled up on the pedal?

Also, did you change the TOB/quill sleeve when you changed the clutch?

I lifted the pedal and it clicked. I have had no problems with ATF, so I don't think that is the problem.

I didn't time myself taking it out, but it took me 7 hours to install the clutch and put everything back together, and install a dynomax kit. I think it's my record. It usually takes less time taking it apart I think.

Yes, the kit came with a new TOB and quill sleeve. The clutch is soooo smooth when you push down the pedal because I greased up all the joints.

You think it is a stetched clutch cable? Where can I get one and how much?

I would imagine you could check junkyards but then you wont be 100% sure that that one could be stretched too. The part number for a new clutch cable is : E9DZ-7K553-A (www.shonutperformance.com) , im not sure if you can still get it through ford or not?

Unless the clutch adjusting quadrant is at the end of its adjustment limit it's probably not the cable.

With an assistant you could check the range of motion of the clutch fork while the clutch is being depressed to see whether it's a problem with the actuator or the clutch itself.

Hey guys thanks for all your help. I pulled up on the pedal a few more times and actually took it out driving and guess what? It works now! Thanks for the suggestions.
