After three weeks, I have my car back. It went into the shop for the second time with transmission problems. This time, all of the solenoids along with some other parts were replaced. I haven't gotten it really hot yet, it's 30 degrees with snow on the ground here, but so far, it's working better than it has since I've had it.
Observations:
1) Even though they are more expensive, the trans from FPS would be a better value in the long run if you plan on keeping the car.
2) If you have to go with a local rebuilder, insist on the TransGo shift kit. Make sure that the shop has had experience with installing this kit in the AXODE trans. It can be tricky. This kit's primary value is the oiling system modifications it makes for extended life. Real shift improving comes with the Ted B LPM.
3)There are parts in these transmissions that should be replaced even they don't show any wear.
The solenoids in mine looked perfect, but we replaced them. Big improvement.
