I’m starting this project this week.
Excited to get it up and going with new interior, a 5 speed and disks. Leaving the paint alone.
I’ll scour this site for information. But
It’s my understanding that I need a 5 speed from a Ranger 3.0. That’s next on the list.
I’ve got some turbos off my ‘67 mustang that one might make its way onto the SHO later on.
Thanks for the site!

You will need to do a little modification to the bell housing on the Ranger trans to get it to mate up to the SHO motor, so be sure to do that before you put things in the vehicle.

Thanks for the tip!
Any chance you know if I keep the sho mtx flywheel or does the ranger fit??
I’m pulling the trans from a ‘94 3.0 tomorrow.

I bet a blown clutch was the reason doner car existed.
I started to 180 the intake as well. Seems like I’ll need to remove material in belt cover or get some 1” spacers made. I’ll look it up next. With 3D printing I’m wondering if spacers could be done cheaply. I know it has to be a certain plastic.
Having sho fun

iirc, you use the pressure plate from the SHO and then a clutch disc from some Z34 Chevy that is the right diameter and has the splines that fit the M5OD. I am sure there is information on the forum about that and its been a number of years since I was looking into doing that type of thing.

I would steer clear of 3D printed plastics. With it being that close to the motor, it will see pretty good heat. ABS will have issues around 175*F. Poly-carbonate will get you to about 300*F without issues. For PC you will need a printer that can sustain 260*F. This is on the upper end of most hobbyist systems. You still may end up with issues over time. I would look more at some of the companies that make heat shield spacers for intakes and figure out what they are making and if they can make spacers or talk to a machine shop about some aluminum spacers.

You’ll need a bell housing from a 3.0L Aerostar (very rare since most Aerostars were intergral) and a T5 transmission, then a South Bend performance clutch for SHO, but the center splines for T5. I have all these parts somewhere, as I once had planned a SHO Miata and SHO Fairmont…..hence my screen name. I spend lots of time and $$ rounding up these parts, so you can have them for $500. I even have the machined spacers for flipping the upper plenum 180 degrees, and a complete under hood wiring harness, and probably a few other cool miscellaneous items.

Great info. Thx.
I have a thick of phenolic, a mill and some time as well. I think I could make a set based on the gaskets in a few hours.
But hopefully I get a set with some other parts I need that were offered up a few days ago.

Well I finally got back into the project.
Parts a thought would work I bought from another here turned out to not work at all. Wrong bell, wrong clutch, wrong risers. Measure twice lesson learned.
Turns out it needs 32 mm rises to turn the intake 180*and 3.0 ford Ranger transmission. Standard ranger 3.0 clutch, and 3.0 starter.
I went with stage 2 clutch kit.
Sho motor goes in this week with any luck. It’s slightly shorter and only slightly heavier than the 2.3 w auto.

was the bellhousing not an aerostar, or just not the one you needed for your trans? I am trying to put a 3.0 together with a t5, and am looking for an aerostar bell housing from the 3.0 RWD 89 aerostar... Anyone?
