Well, i recently started work on my '92 MTX. The more i work on it, the more problems i find (litle as they may be, there still problems.)

1.) Idle Surging - the car will surge almost everytime when at idle (coming to a stop ). Happening a little once the car is warmed up, but not as bad as when coming to a stop. I think it might be the IAC, i know what it is. Just not where its at... lol The car will not die from this though.

2.) Engine cut off - The engine will cut off for a split second when idling, happens every like 4 mins or so. Its so sudden, but i know it happens, because you can look at the climate control and it looks just like it does on start up (every mode is displayed)

3.) Slow Tach - The tach is slow, what else can i say. Its not in time with the motor. Dunno what the cause would be.

4.) Hard Throttle - the pedal is hard to push, i have lead to be belive it is the cable, if it is. Please tell me where to get one and how hard it is to install and how to install it.

Other then that, the car is runing excellent, chrips 2nd and 3rd.. Heh.

Please help me, i want to get this car on the road. Sooner the better

The EATC is located behind the throttle body. It is the cylinder. Try cleaning it out. Also you can hook a 9v to it and if it reponds it is still good.

EATC= Electronic Automatic Temperature Control, it sits in the car, in the dash? ;) The symptom to me sounds like a bad crank sensor :thumb:
ALSO- chirping gears in the MTX is NOT a good idea- quick way to **** it- I broke 2nd gear blocking ring doing this- Removing the tranny is NOT enjoyable when it is because of unnecessary doings

For the stiff pedal- remove the intake tube and see how dirty the TB is(clean if need be).
Throttle cable could be bad though- Go to Ebay under -TAURUS SHO- there is one for sale.
surging and cuting out can also be associated with a faulty TPS(could have a flat spot)

I'm talking about the IAC, idle air control. I heard that would help cure the surging.

I din't mean to chrip the gears, i'm still getting used to the MTX. :)

I will try cleaning the TB and IAC. Hopefully, that will work.

Still need help on te Tach question though. :(

1) The surging idle is usually caused by a dirty or worn idle air control valve. Since these parts are available at local auto supplies and removing it to clean it just as much fun as to replace it, you may just want to replace it. You can remove it without lifting the intake by using a regular old "L" shaped Allen wrench to reach the lower bolt. It just takes a lot of turns.

2) The engine cuts out and the climate control resets at idle because there is an electical power loss. This may be a loose battery terminal connector, weak alternator or many other sources.

3) The tach signal is sourced from the DIS module on the passenger side of the intake. Make sure it is properly connected and grounded.

4) To test if the throttle cable or the throttle body is the cause of the stiff pedal, just rotate the TB cam by hand. If the throttle cam is stiff then the TB shaft is gummed up. If not, then pull on the throttle end of the cable to see if you can push and pull it into the sheath. That will tell you if the cable is sticky.

Thank youso much for the help.

1.) i'll probly pick up a new IAC
2.) Yea, the car hasn't been ran/drivin for a long time. Its acually starting to go away.
3.) Its the flat gray one on the intake right? on the right side facing the motor.
4.) i can turn the TB, but will try the other part.

Thanks again :thumb: :hail:
