Hello all,

Most of you that I spoke to at the last run may remember that I was talking about a new job, which is why I bought the SVTF and was considering selling the SHO.

ANYWAYS,

before I send something out to other clubs, I figured I'd ask my closest car-chums and get a little feedback, hopefully.

I am the Catering Operations Director for a 200 acre entertainment ranch located just outside San Antonio called Rio Cibolo Ranch ( www.riociboloranch.com ).

It's a rather large ranch that does weddings, corporate parties, conventions, etc. Upon my first week it dawned on me that not only are the wide open spaces perfect for car shows, but the ranch is literaly across the highway from River City raceway.

I am considering putting together a car show/drag day/reception proposal that would include rental of the ranch grounds, either a full buffet banquet dinner or appetizers ( bar and drinks of course are also available. ) and possibly, if the track is willing, rental of the racetrack all included in one price.

In order to do it cheap enough, I'd need to involve a few other groups, as the head count would likely need to be in the 60-100 ppl range. This could include guests however, and not just cars. I'm thinking maybe getting the SHO clubs the SVT people and perhaps Mustang/Probe/other Ford groups together first, then again it could be domestic/import, or whatever, just a bunch of car nuts. There is a huge open pavilion where some cars could be parked as well, if need be.

I figure a cool event would be an initial gtg at the ranch followed by a short drive over to the track for drag racing or perhaps guest speaker ( in this case, maybe a SHO guru or something. )

After while, back at the ranch for an evening dinner and reception, maybe even an awards ceremony for the top car at the track or something.

The point is the ranch has so many features that almost anything is possible. If there are enough votes of confidence, I'll put together a more set-in-stone type of proposal and present it.

If anyone local wants to see the ranch to get an idea about what I am talking about, PM me or e mial me and I'll set something up.

Thanks for listening and I hope you all can provide a little feedback on wether this would all work or not.

Is this the same ranch that was considering using some valets from the marriott to help during some parties?

Tim was considering putting together a mid america meet, since last SHO convention was in maryland, and next year it's gonna be in madison, Wa. It'd be awesome to have it in San Antonio, sounds like a nice surrounding for an event.

It's definitly time for a track event (closed road course preferably), or a big parking lot where an Autocross course could be set up. If that could be thrown in, I have no doubt we'd attract plenty of people for a 'track' event.

Damien,
Mark me down for a YES anytime after February. That is when my basketball season is over, and we could still have some cooler weather to run in, but yet sunny. Heck we can post this on probetalk.com in the texas area and see what kind of feedback we get. We have done some things with them in the DFW area and they are a great bunch of guys!

Awesome!

I haven't spoken to River City Raceway yet but I am hopeful that something can be worked out. They do have a parking lot big enough to support a coned-in road course. Think of it, drag racing AND autocrossing, all in the same time.

The grounds at the ranch are awesome. Believe me, it's clean, quiet and picturesque, surely a nice place for an after racing show and party.

I'll put something together over the next few weeks.

Price wise, it could range anywhere from 30-50 bucks a head, estimating cost for the track's rental. I'm certainly hoping to keep the cost down, but I'm sure there must be a common ground for all involved. The ranch owners are very excited about an event like this so I will do my best.

I'll know more when I talk to the track's people.

JC- To my knowledge, no. unbeknownst to most, but Marriott just opened an entertainment racnch of their own. Perhaps this is the ranch you might be thinking of.

We had around 30 people just for the Fall Run. Add some Probes, Lightenings and Mustangs then get sponsorship from Ford to pay for it...you then have:

The First Annual Texas SHO Convention plus some other guys.

Let me know if you need some help making phone calls and marketing stuff.

You guys are awesome!

I'm going to begin researching the costs involved along with contacting the raceway. Maybe I'll mosey on over atfer work Wednesday and check out a little track action as well.

If anyone is interested in seeing the ranch, please feel free to contact me and we'll set up an appointment.

As usual, I'm answering late but count me in! I had a ball at the Fall Run and might even be able to run my car this time!

I just learned that there is some bad blood between the place I work and the racetrack. Apparently, RCR snuck in to their location by some sort of sneaky legal trick that ****** off all of the surrounding landowners, who's property value took a dive after a drag strip complete with all the noise moved in.

The owner of the ranch I work for does not want anything to do with River City Raceway. There could still be a car show/BBQ set up but any track use will be separate in cost.

I haven't had any of my calls returned in terms of renting the track. A girl I work with is friends with the family that owns the track, so I'll see what I can come up with there.

In short, this may take a while longer to work out.

either way even just a car show is worth 30 bucks to enter your car... considering most car shows run about 40 to enter a car then you don't get and food or drinks. Even without a track I'm there, if you need any help setting anything up let me know I'd be glad to help. Maybe I'll be able to get my friend to bring his truck out there... The one and only "Harley Expedition", It's a Expedition with all the parts from a Harley F-150. This sounds like a really good idea and it should be no problem getting people to show up.

You should post this on the National SHO Owners club, could be a good way to get SHOs from all over the states to come down to little ol Texas, and if we can't get the track we can do the fall run again. The cousre we took on the fall run is a designated state of Texas highway scenic route. Maybe the weather would be better too.
