I went in last week and ordered my cam cover gasket with spark plug well seals at Autozone and they called me today saying that felpro didnt have anymore gaskets and wasnt going to make any more. WHAT!!! Does anyone know if this is true, or if I should find a different auto zone or what?? Does anyone reccomend any place else?? :( I need these gaskets BAD, I have so much oil in my spark plug wells, plus my car is already sitting with the intake manifold off. PLEASE HELP! frown

bs Well, Unless I got the last one(arrived on friday). My local "AZ" stated that they too could not find one. I ordered mine online at AZ.com. Also, "Advance Auto" web page has them for $91(That was per a phone conversation, I haven't actually looked for them online here). NAPA has them for $124, and Carquest has them for $134.(Again, both phone conversations on 3-31). Hope this helps :D

When I ordered mine about half a year ago I had quite a problem finding a set at ANY of the local parts stores. I finally found a set through a smaller parts store that ordered them for me. They are getting harder to find, so good luck.

The AZ was probably just telling you a random story. I certainly hope so. Likely they've run low or out at the warehouse and in a few months time the situation will be reversed. There's clearly a demand for these kits; so many of us have purchased them within the last year. How lame would that be if FelPro decided to stop manufacturing at a high point in demand?

If anybody hears anymore on this positive or negative PLEASE post it here!

partsamerica.com also shows a "Victor" brand name valve cover set. Has anyone tried these?

Victor Reinz = DANA motor group
Fel-Pro = Federal-Mogul motor group

Both are top quality parts and i personally wouldn't question either.... Napa gaskets are Victor Reinz(just as napa filters are wix filters which are also a part of DANA motor group)

As for the gaskets being discontinued... i'll call federal mogul sometime next week, but we recieve emails at store level when federal mogul recalls or discontinues anything, and i have heard nothing....

last time i checked my dallas warehouse kept 5 and my houston warehouse kept 10 sets of those valve cover gaskets...

http://www.autozone.com shows that the FelPro VS50378R is $71.99 normal stock for online ordering. For in store it shows it as not available.

Same deal with the FelPro intake manifold gasket set MS94831 $45.99.

For store availability they say: Not Available - Temporarily unavailable.
Please check back soon.

I found the same thing with some common items that a lot of us get from Autozone: Wells CPS and CID sensors for instance. Available for online ordering but not available (temporarily unavailable) for in store special ordering. Maybe they're revamping their in store ordering system?

Rick that has been going on for at least a year. A summer or two ago they gave me the run around about ordering a set from the store.

Same part number = no difference
actually....man i know it looks like i argue with everything you say....i don't mean to... just trying to enlighten on some misconceptions...

felpro has at least two lines that i know of

there is there standard felpro line...which is what you normally see and buy... brown box... and is there top line...

and there is also a line called engine seal (by fel-pro) and uses the same part numbers... it is usually cheaper and of cheaper construction... so something like that MAY be the reason behind the dual listings on the website...

lots of companies do that actually.... IE wix/napa filters.... hayden/imperial fan clutches factory air/murray/four seasons air conditioning products....

Only sometimes, I hardly notice.

Good info. thumbup Didn't know they had a top line that used the same part numbers.

Luigisho: Silly Autozone. You'd think they were trying to lose business? I guess the best advice is if Autozone has the gasket set you want for the cheapest and you can afford to wait, try, try and try again if they give you the runaround. shrug

More good advice. And this falls into the "do as I say and not as I do" bin. wink Get yourself a big box and write: "Goodies for future 60K work and engine swap, etc." on the box. Then slowly gather parts like above mentioned gasket sets and place them in the box. Important: Rub palms together like a greedy little boy whenever new goodies go into the box. :D For married men: Omit the label "for future use". Divert funds as opportunity arises in manner least likely to raise suspicion. Spend half for toys and half for goodies to place in the box. Rub palms together like a greedy boy.

hehehe
Even if it's to keep the car running, the wife says, "Do you really need that?" (DUH!) to any purchase, at the same time she buys a new friggin' purse for $70 every other year- "My old one was worn out"
Sigh.
