I just installed a new Sony head into the stock sound system. I am getting a large amount of engine noist now. I checked all the wires and none of them are bare. After I did a search on here I purchased a noise suppressor from radio shack. I believe that I installed it correctly but with not effect.

I also took it to my machanic and he tested the alternator. He said that there is one bad diode in the alternator and that may or may not becaueing the problem. He said I might try putting a capacitor on the amp. I was thinking that is wasn't the problem because there wasn't any whining while the previous radio was installed. Thanks for the help.

I have a similar problem with mine. The feedback changes pitch relative to the rpm of the motor. Oddly, it's only noticable on AM stations. FM seems OK.

I listen to cd's 95% of the time so I never dug in to fix it.

Not a fan of noise suppressors. Good advice on ground, do lamps on the radio dim the louder you get, if so, could be the weak ground.
