Thanks to the previous thread, I was able to solve my speedometer bouncing around problem to go take it to get smogged. I also removed the SPOUT thanks to the walkthrough. But now that I could get smog tested, here came another bout of problems.

On the visual section, my EGR is disconnected/not threaded. The fuel evaporative controls has a cracked hose, and they found the missing SPOUT.

At 15 MPH, it failed HC (max 116, meas 128) and CO (max .74, meas .77)

At 25 MPH, it failed HC (max 91, meas 113) and CO (max .62, meas .98)

Well, my registration was due today (thanks to the seller, dumped it off right before it needed renewal), but thanks to this little conundrum, I'm going to be late. Nevertheless, I'm in need of help. What can you guys interpret? Keep in mind the SPOUT was not in during this test, so it may be even worse than that. Should I be taking this to one of those generic smog repair stations and let them handle it? How much will it cost to get the EGR fixed and that cracked hose replaced?

First off, if I remember correctly, in California the seller is responsible for all costs associated with passing emissions.

Fix the EGR.

How are the cat's?

Where are you in California?

ATX or MTX?

Where are you at? The place I go, we pull the spout right infront of the guy and then tested my SHO. I haven't been called out on my SS Can and filter either.

That's what I thought too, but according to the CA DMV, it can go either way now. It looks like it's all dumped on to me.

It's an MTX. The cats should be okay, but I wouldn't know what to look for in checking them, but I was thinking they could be the problem as well.

I'm located close to San Jose. I get a free retest at that station, and if I don't pass, I'm willing to travel to get this said and done with.

My EGR pipe cracked not to long ago i called everywhere here in Cali and the EGR pipe has being discontinued as per FordMotorCompany. So i took it to my local autoshop and for 20 bucks they weld it very nice and no problems since.

Also just want to let you know that if you plan to buy a used one, you should know that if doesn't come from a original CA build SHO, then is not going to work CA and the other 49 States styles are different, now i could be wrong on this but i purshased one from some one else and it was completely different. good luck!

Some California MTX's came with EGR's. The California MTX EGR system is different then the ATX's All states EGR system and they don't interchange.

the one on the left is the CA MTX SHO as you can see the crack fixed.
and the one on right well obviously is the one for the rest of the states:dribble:

Nice. Is that a feather boa you used to fix the crack? J/K. Anyway, JB-weld is also a good way to fix cracks like that if you're in a hurry. I use JB-Stik, it's friggin' awesome. A broken EGR is definitely a sure way to fail a smog test. Did you pull the right SPOUT connector? Usually, unless the guy doing the test is both knowledgeable about SHOs AND and *******, they'll have no idea. Oh well. I hope your next test goes better...

Yeah, I'm most certain it was the right one. The drive to the smog test was stupdendously slow. I had to push the loud pedal down about two times further to get about half the acceleration I normally get. I've put it back in and ran up the engine to make sure it's okay and it pulls hard, but I have this weird feeling like it's a bit slower now. I'll just double check the connector, but I think I might just be getting used to the extra speed the SHO offers (previous car was a stock Civic) Thanks for your help previously though.

Yeah, I'm gonna head over to Bay SHO sometime soon. I went over to the DMV and they gave me one of those nasty red stickers to put on your rear windshield for the time being. I've got until the end of the month to get the SHO smogged, so I've got some time now. My low fuel indicator was on so I went ahead and filled up along with some cheap Gumout fuel injector cleaner. I don't know if it'll do anything, but I plan on using Seafoam later (which will definitely do something), along with concentrated techron (which worked well for my previous car), and along with getting the EGR and that hose fixed. And then that should do it. Hopefully I'll be okay after that.
