Well, I remember that Ford offered 2 tuned versions of the shelby cobra....a 650 HP version w/warranty and a 750 HP version w/no warranty.

That would be great!!!.....If you can retain the warranty I'm all over this.....I'm waiting for some history with this engine before I add any aftermarket equipment....since it's my daily drive!!

I don't recall Ford doing this at all. My boss has had 3 Shelby's and none, not even the KR, was rated at those kind of numbers from Ford. Care to elaborate or give a link to show some truth to that?? :munch:

Starting in 2008, previous 2007 Shelby GT500 Mustangs could be sent to Carroll Shelby's Special Performance Plant in Las Vegas Nevada to be rebuilt into a Super Snake, for an additional cost of $27,995. The Super Snake will offer a 605 hp (451 kW) (at the engine) 5.4 L Kenne Bell twin-screw supercharged version with "over 725 hp" will also be available, without warranty and offer a 0-60 mph runs in 3.5 to 3.7 seconds.[10][11] The Super Snake is inspired by the 1967 GT500 Super Snake, a car made by Carroll Shelby for Goodyear Tires.

~3/4 of the way down

From wiki. I used to have a 99 cobra and read alot about them (cobras). It was definitely more than a tune (contrary to what I initially posted), but for a price you could get a "super snake" upgrade from your GT500 and it void the warrany. There was also a lesser version (again more than a tune) to get 650HP but still retain the factory warranty.

I guess I was assuming from the initial post that it would be more than a tune (CAI, tune, and a few other goodies) and thus made reference to the GT500 upgrades as I was just wondering if he had information on that.

Sure, for $2500 they will give you an upgrade...but if it voids the warranty, I am not sure I would want to sign up.

Just a by stander now, but a SHO will be mine...its only a matter of time...a very short period of time.

I would be very interested in a Factory Tune, or at least a Factory "backed" tune by one of Ford's vendors. After much research it seems this motor and the PCM are much more complex due to the motors already high compression (for a boosted application) and relatively high levels of boost already (12psi on 10:1 is significant). I just don't trust that the aftermarket has this one right yet where it's proven stable and is long lasting with no ill effects to engine longevity. Sure any tuner can crank up the boost but can they get the rest of it right? I'm just not in the mood to be grenading a motor for a few extra ponies and the idea of a warranty sounds great to me, I'm willing to pay a little extra for it as well just for the piece of mind.

OK guys, gotcha now. ;) I was under the impression of a "tune" from Ford coming out, not a complete new supercharger, turbo, etc. Ford isn't gonna warranty anything with that much power (700+) especially once you're over 700 ponies on a Shelby you are on borrowed time anyhow. I was just hoping that Ford had worked with someone to create a more aggressive tune and still keep the factory warranty. I'll keep my eyes peeled.

I think that "factory tune" is nothing more than bug fixes for the car's computer. Sometimes it helps improve performance by correcting timing faults when the car shipped. Usually dealerships will flash the latest firmware to the car when a customer brings in their vehicle for servicing.

I had a Focus SVT that had three or four computer upgrades, but none of them really did any significant performance improvements.

I would be very interested as well if Ford released a factory tune upgrade that kept the warranty in tact.

My source is a Ford employee, I mentioned having a new SHO and questioned the aftermarket tunes out there and his eyes lit up then he mentioned the blown engines they were getting back and told me to hold on for their tune.

I will get more details when he comes thru the race shops again.

Engines?? As in more than one?!? I've heard of only one going boom thus far, and it was pushing some pretty damn good numbers. That is, before the insides wanted to see how the world looked from the outside.

I hope they do different stages? Maybe a stage one kit that is just a tune? Stage 2 with a few parts? But they already believe the intake and exhaust can't be improved.. Maybe a stage 3 with bigger turbo's and a change to the fuel system?

If I could run consistent low 13s with a factory tune with warranty I would be happy. Definitely not bad where they're at stock but getting them down in that low 13 sec range would open up a whole other level of cars to play with :)
