Well at 6k my sho is at the dealer till Tuesday. Seems that two spark plugs were miss firing and caused a cel to come on, and made the car shake real bad from miss firing. There are no mods on the car nor have has anything been done to it except and oil change (done at the dealership). I find it very odd that at 6k the faactory plugs would fail this early and after reading SHOSC's thread makes me a little worried ... I asked the tech what would cause the plugs to fail his response was it happens sometimes and he has seen it before this soon on a new car, I on the other hand have never seen it and will be watching the car very close now especially with the 115 temps here in vegas... I'll post updates when they become avaiable..

I hate to say it, but not only am I not surprised, I don't think it's that big a deal. This is very nearly the first model year for an entirely new engine in an almost entirely new (aside from the platform) car. There are bound to be issues, part quality problems, etc. etc. It's all part of the teething process. Doesn't make it any better that it happened to you, but you have to realize that Ford, while they do pretty heavy QA checks on most of their supplier parts, can't weed every bad part out. Some will slip through.
Now if, say, a piston melted, I'd be a little more concerned but burnt-out spark plugs, while annoying, are not really a cause for huge concern.

I totaly understand the new platform thing, i just dont want it to be a lemon platform and to this point I have loved every mile I have put on the car (and hate the rental Im in). I just dont want this to be a regular thing or worse.

All this OBD1 and OBD2 stuff was developed to allow cars to reach 100,000 miles (or more) without the need for a tune up.
Sounds like this tune up came early. I had longer plug life when we still had points.
And don't you just love it when the techs tell you they have seen it all before, and there is nothing for you to worry about. I would prefer a frown on the face of the guy in the white coat, and a promise that he would get to the bottom of it.

No I like the looks from the tech when I asked what caused it, was it a bad c.o.p loose connection what? and the tech gets the deer in headlight look of OH! SH*T he knows something about cars and then shrugs it just happens.

Weird.... Know tech's give the run-around, but ....... What octane fuel have you been using? HWY vs City driving???? Any other oddities?????

I'm just curious what went bad on the plug?
Was the porcelin broke or was the metal melted or what, it just randomly stoped working correctly?

I just talked to the dealership and on three of the plugs the porcelin was craked and arcing, so they replaced all 6 and fixed a squeky window and im on my way to pick it up.

Oh nice maybe you'll get lucky and they sprayed oil all over both sides of the glass haha. How the heck did they fix a squeeky window the right way? I can just hear it now in 10 years chalkboard as you put all four windows down in a 10 year old Taurus..
Thats exactly what it sounded like too. the replaced the belt if I read the invoice right, I can't really see it since I left it in the sun and it turned black.

Wow! Their using belts for the windows now huh? Times must be tight for Ford if their swapping gears for belts to make a power window go up and down.
This could be due to either pre-ignition or detonation assuming there was not a manufacturing defect with the original plugs. You might want to consider having the pistons looked at with a borescope for any evidence of piston damage. Also, would suggest shifting to Tier 1 gas (to provide some additional detergents) with an octane rating higher than 87 to provide a little "safety margin" against detonation with the higher octane . . .
Back at the dalership again with the same issue as before probably the plugs again and some front brake issue's as well having them check the tsb 10-17-3. this is ******* me off first problem was at 6k miles now again at 12k...
There is a TSB on the plug issue. Don't ask me the number 'cause I don't have the paper work. It addresses the mis-firing/missing issue with replacement of newer style/updated plug. I have 15K+ on mine and had the plugs replaced under this although I had only experienced the issue a few times. I believe it covers all SHO's built prior to August of this year, don't quote me here, but the owner has to bring this up as it's not a recall.
