Hey I was wondering, the Sable doesn't have a factory keyless/alarm. Is there a way I can add it on? If so, what would I need?

Seeing I can't search the TCCA for it, and most all SHOs came pre-equipped with them... I can't seem to find a search that can help me with this.

Things You'll Need For This Add-On:
1. PATS w/ Transponder Key
2. Drivers Handle w/ Touch Pad
3. Remote

Please Let me know what else I'm missing! Thank you!

Thanks!

I would think a SHO door [for the keypad], a key transponder [or two] and the control unit itself. Perhaps there are other items associated with the door locks and trunk that I'm not aware of, but let me clarify that I'm only guesstimating. Hopefully it is of help to you.

Well first off, I have PATS and a Transponder Key. Wouldn't it be the Door Handle I need, and NOT the entire Door? Seeing it's the handle that has the pad on it? Also... Umm.. Lemme know, cause I want this in my car BAD, REAL BAD!

Edit: Im editing my first post to show what I need. Thanks!

I think it would be too much trouble to try to equip a non pats car with pats ... another wiring harness to run, another computer, the key, keyfob ...

the pats system has a reader that is behind the key cylinder that reads the chip IIRC, or at least with the newer pats vehicles it does.

Sal, IMHO its too much trouble to do

You might just want to consider an aftermarket system. It seems like it would be a **** of a lot cheaper, and a lot less headache. Plus you can get some nifty features that the factory system doesn't have. I can't tell you how many times I wish I had remote start on my car. It sucks having to drag your but out to the cold car an plop it on the cold leather when its 37 below at nine in the morning. Butte is cold.

I've already told myself If I'm here another winter I will definately get an aftermarket one put in.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Brian, I have PATS... But no remote. That's what strikes me as odd.

Sal, don't you have the LS Premium?

If so, there was definitely a remote there at some point, but previous owners might not have included it, or might have lost it.

When I was at the squealer getting the headlight clips for my car I saw an ad card on the counter. They now have add on keypad/remote. The pad sticks on the the vehicle. And the rest is history... Dunno if it's DIY friendly, though...

I still think that an LS (what I have) would have come with remote entry...

Have you tried to look for the module and find out if you have it or not? I think it was located somewhere near the steering column, under the dash, but I'm not sure. Maybe one of the V8 guys can chime in here. If you do have the module, you should be able to buy the keyfobs on eBay and take them to a dealer to have them programmed.

Not sure if this info will help....I have a 2001 F-150 Lightning. It did not come with the key pad but did have the keyless entry fob. I added the key pad..bought it and already painted to match handle that had the keypad hole in it. The pad had a pigtail ...My truck had the plug for the pigtail hanging in the door panel. Might be worth investigating to see if your Taurus does...

Also, just because you don't have the keypad doesn't mean you don't have remote entry. My LS doesn't have the keypad...

Sal try buying a remote when i bought my sable it did not have remote i got two and ran the program procedure and they worked. You can always re-sell the remotes if they do not work.

Otherwise there is a module for it, I thought it was the RCU but i am really not sure. My sable was just an LS non premium.

Yep thats it. The remote idea mentioned sounds good too. I knew I had it and scored a remote for $17 +shipp off EBay. persons screenname was something like skasta I think. He's always selling lotsa remotes for all cars. I think he gets them from junkyards en mass in a box and sells them from there. He sent a sheet with it that had the programming instructions on it. I already knew from SHOTimes though...

Cycle ignition from OFF to RUN or ACC eight (8) times within 10 seconds, ending in RUN or ACC. All doors will lock then unlock to confirm programming mode. Press any button on 1st remote transmitter. Door locks will cycle to confirm programming. Press any button on 2nd transmitter (up to 4 transmitters total possible). Turn ignition to OFF. The door locks will lock then unlock to confirm programming.

i got that from AllData so that might be the correct procedure.

Update: Well I bought a remote. It would be totally bad ass if it does work. If not, no biggie, I'll probably get an alarm system after I do my Projector/HID setup! (Coming VERY soon!)

Ok, so I ended up buying a remote off eBay. I was like, "What the ****, its only $10... If it don't work, I'll give it to someone who owns a ford."

So I get it in the mail today. Not long ago, I head out to the Sable and attempt to program it.

JRod was right, it's cycling the key 8 times within 10 seconds from off to Run. Ending on Run... Well here goes nothing...

and nothing happens... Oops, I think I over counted. Lets try again...1..2...3..4.......7..8. "Click Click"

OMG! It's in PROGRAMMING MODE! I quickly hit a button on the remote, and then,... "Click Click" IT PROGRAMMED IN!!!

I turn off the car, and hit the lock button... IT LOCKS!!!!!!! I HAVE REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY!!!!

Thanks for everyone's input! It's GREATLY appreciated!
