How hard would it be to find a factory cd player for my '92 SHO? Does anyone out there have one that I could by?

check out ebay...they're on there alot. I currently have a Gen1, that I'm pretty sure would work in your Gen2, on there. You can also use the CD player out of a Mustang, because they are the same. You will probably have to replace the radio also (or do some rewiring) if your SHO did not have the CD player option.

The first thing you have to check it to see if your head unit is really CD compatable. All the units have th 6 pin jack in the back do the CD player, but inless it has a shorting plug in it it is not CD compatable without some internal modification. Check here for info on the mod. After you have the headunit figured out you will need the wiring that goes to the CD player also, some ebay auctions come with it, some don't. Mine did not and I did not wat to pay $50 for some wires so I made mine my self out of some 9 pin D-sub connectors from Radio Shack. Get the newest one you can find if you are going to play burned CDs, mine is from '94 and it plays the OK but only OK (some times it need some "help" figuring out where the end of the track is).

I never had problems playing burned CDs(the only CD i use) in my factory CD player(Gen1), it was more accepting of them than my brand new alpine.

eBay is definitely the place to find them at a 'good' price. Most junkyards want WAY too much for them.

FWIW, I've found that burning audio CD's at 1x speed works perfectly in almost every CD player I've tried, regardless of age. It takes a LONG time, but again, I've never had one fail to play.

I'll have to try burning at a different speed. My CD player playes the tracks OK but when it get to the end of the track more often that not it gets "stuck"(not mechanically) and you have to manually advance the track. It only does this on burned CDs.
