so i found a plug, its grey squared shape but inside it it is oval with a red stripe on top. what's it for? its not plugged in to anything and my car runs like crap. is this why? i know a guy told me there are two smog plugs that have a fuse type block in them and they will make the car run like crap if unplugged. well i found the two and they are plugged in so im wondering if this mystery plug i have not in use should be plugged also.. help!!!

What kind of car? ATX or MTX

What year?

Picture of the plug? It sounds like one I found on both of my cars. Not plugged in.

The simplest way to post pictures is to host them somewhere (such as at shospeed.com) then link them here with the tag.

How 'bout a rough approximation where you found it? Behind the intake? In front of the alternator? Behind the headlight? Under the oilpan? etc.

So far it sounds exactly like ~30-40 different connectors under the hood.

How many pins? Can you tell what wire colors are coming out of it?
(Or just post a pic :))

I went out and looked under my brake booster on my two '90s, and I didn't see any square/rectangular grey connectors with an oval recess in that area. A handful of black ones there, and a handful of round grey connectors there, but nothing that matched the description.

May be a Gen2-only connector?

A pin count and/or wire color report and/or picture would help immensely.

three wire, brown/green brown/white taniish /red . also it isnt not on the main harness but on a harness that connects the oil sender, temp light, o2 sensor, and a few others. when i mentioned oval before i said oval inside a rectangular plug. and no there are not a gazillion rectangular plugs under the brake booster.

well I can't find crap on it, but all I have is the 93 EVTM with me and I know there were some wiring changes between 92 and 93 so...

all I've been able to find is that Brown / white is a voltage reference to at least the BARO sensor and the TPS, that Brown / green is EGR (which you don't have), and Tan / red goes to the EEC test port. So you might want to probe the BR/WH wire and see if you're getting 5V... and if you are, that means something somewhere isn't.

Its a factory test port or some crap. Every SHO car I came across has the same thing just dangling. I also have had 93 and 94 MTX shos and they have the same plug dangling around not connecting to anything. There are a few of them in the car. If you do a search someone explained it already.
