My 15 SHO is out of commission now due to failed fuel injector. Out of pocket cost would be just over $1000. Thanks to ext extra care warranty, I pay a $200 deductible. So if you're wondering if the extended warranty is worth it....... Ford is also covering the oil and filter change as fuel may have mixed with oil.

Always a crap shoot when it comes to warranties. I reluctantly (and against my better judgement), signed on the dotted line for the Ford Total Care warranty. Literally the first time to use it last week on a failing rear window shade, dealer calls me to advise that the rear window shade is not covered. I reply, that it most certainly is and show the advisor the part of the warranty that lists "Rear Power Window Shade". Perplexed, she calls the tech and he says that the power shade is working, however the rear parcel shelf/deck is warped, preventing the shade from going up and down. Since interior trim pieces aren't covered, they want $878 for the repair. I told them to forget it, since I had my windows tinted. But lesson learned....unless somewhere down the road I need a catastrophic repair done, I'm out 2 grand.

It's always a crapshoot. These things are complex enough to consider one. I would only get the heavy stuff engine and tranny/drivetrain and lop a chunk off the bumper to bumper coverage cost.

I just want to chime in that a replacement oem motorcraft fuel injector costs $100 on rock auto

Dealer wanted over $1000 for parts and labor. Also said I may need a new catalytic converter due to fuel leakage and that because the would be failure was caused by a covered warranty part, they would cover that cost too. Not too mention the rental car for 7 days would have been astronomical if it wasn't covered by warranty.

Your cat and possibly injectors would likely be covered by the extensive Emissions warranty regardless of any extended warranty. Same with any safety items (airbags, seats, etc). My seat track which was a bit loose (clunked under heavy braking/accelerating) was covered as a safety item no charge/deductible.

If I could charge a thousand bucks for a single injector replacement I'd do it in a heartbeat. Thank **** the warranty place is paying for that astronomical charge for a job I could do one handed, with a blind fold and an adjustable wrench in 2 hours. Jesus...

Since the pandemic I haven't been driving my 2016 as much but wondered if I should work with the service manager to try to get certain items replaced such as the water pump, fuel pump, PTU before my Ford Extended warranty expires next year as I've seen that those are most likely the components to go bad? Right now I have almost 80k miles on it and I used to drive it about 24k a year. Thoughts?

I plan to do this very thing when I'm close to warranty expiration. I'll obviously have to pay for diagnosis, but it may be worth it.
