my exhaust got really loud today and in the rain my dad and i took a quick look. it appears that the Y pipe disocnnected from the rest of the stock cat back. BTW i have a SS y pipe. most likely i may need a new gasket right at that junction. what kind of gasket works the best and how much? i believe it is a donut gasket if i am correct. thanks

You're right about the donut Jason. You can get it Autozone for like $5. My store has a bunch in stock, they are used for other applications. In the future you may want to get a flex pipe welded in, that would eliminate the gasket area. This place seems to have the best prices on them-http://phantomroadworks.com/shoparts.html
Just click on the DIY section.

well it turns out it was the ******...just finally rotted away. i called up advanced auto parts and they don't sell just the ****** so i went to a local custom exhaust shop. i was expecting them to do soem cut and welding, but instead the guy gave me an adjustable ****** for $40. not bad all i have to do now is install it.

all fixed. my dad worked on it tonight. the installation was easy but the problem was that the donut gasket was not the correct size. he called a few auto stores and they did not have a part listing for that donut gasket. my dad measured the diameter of the inside of the gasket and went to autozone. they could not locate the part. my dad then asked to see their box of donut gaskets and finally he matched up one that would fit perfectly. only cost a buck and the funny this is that the gasket is for a ford pickup truck with a v8 from the early 70's. interesting, huh? no my car is very quiet again. over the past few months my car had been getting increasingly louder and now it sounds great.
