Im awesomely surprised how complete this book is. I really tought it was a ripoff . but its not.

Engine codes , specs , bolt paterns , bolt torque , all electrical wiring , vacuum wiring , pics all the way , bolt lenghts (waterpump) , how to's , etc etc etc....

I mean wow. And since a computer is not very practical in a garage.... Props to that book.

For those interested , its the book 26700 Chilton (gen1&2) , i think walmart has it , i got mine off ebay 7$.

The factory CD's are available all over the internet, and are 1000% more complete than a Chilton manual. Chilton is good for some very basic maintenance, but if you're serious about doing more than routine fluid changes or plugs/wires the factory manual can't be beat.

I got those from ford cds , all of em , and i made them work.

I havnt found anything on the CD (yet) thats not in the chilton. but its ALOT easier to search in the book then in that craptacular Ford CD program.

Helm's r00lz.

Seriously, when you hit the limitations of the Chilton's (which you will if you do much in-depth maintenance), then the CDs are the next step and then a Helm's. I find it easier to find things in the Helms than the CDs (usually, especially torque specs), although the CDs do have some things (like wiring and vacuum diagrams) that aren't in the Helms.

Best bang for the buck: CDs

Chilton's has more how-to with pix than the others, it does have its uses.

I haven't seen that in mine. The one thing that ****** me off was that my Chiltons is missing the seat removal part. I found out how via the forum but it lists a section that doesn't exist.

The Ford CDs are the Helm manuals. It takes some practice to find what you want but it is all there. Torque settings are easy to find as they are always under the specification entry on the subject you are looking at.

my '89 Helms Shop Manual has the correct firing order.

Difficult to read the illistration, but it is correct.

And I wouldnt ever think of using anything but the Helms Shop Manuals.
I flipped thru a Chiltons the other day at Checker when I was waiting in line.... and tossed it back in the rack with a chuckle.

Although, Chiltons does has pretty good "Tech-Books". I found one specific to Powerstrokes, and it is very similiar in content to the Helms. Much more of a real manual than a run of the mill Chiltons.

i got one of those cds also they are hard to find some stuff but hey they got all the info i need.
