EPP or Airaid intake? I'm purchasing hot pipes today and was wondering if it would be beneficial to get the intake as well. I currently have the Airaid.

Get the epp dual intake. It cuts out the bend. I dont think hotpipes cut out the bend. I havent seen dyno results on it though, usually an intake dosnt do much on this platform but maybe the epp dual intake would as it makes the air path more straight.

Is the performance worth paying the extra $500+ (w/ coating) when I've already paid $2xx for the Airaid?

Not really, i dont think any intake is worth the price on our platform. Except for k&n drop in
Yep, unless you are upgrading the turbos, the stock air box with a K&N drop in, is more the adequate to handle all of the bolt on mods.

I actually ran my car on the dyno with the stock air box and K&N, vs the stock air box without the K&N in it. Results....picked up 2hp IIRC. Not worth writing home about.

I just want it to look cool! Thats about it
Not worried about aesthetics at the moment. But, sounds like the both of you are saying it's not worth it (at this moment)

No its not, ford actually did a good job on the sucky end of the turbo. But the turbo air to engine is and was a bottleneck. Gearhead intercooler fixed that. And the exhaust was a big bottleneck, catlessdownpipes and exhaust manifold porting fixed that. Chevy and Dodge did supercharging for emissions, Ford did turbocharging but still needed to meet epa. Hard to make more on tt platform while meeting epa, when to force more air you have to make more exhaust. Ford never pushed the SHO as part of the performance line, look back at all the years. The ST cars are what is shown, even though the SHO can smoke them all, if the SHO was pushed as a performance car with performance car tax. It would have been alot better from factory at least

anybody have a coupon code for EPP haha!

I dont even know if he is on this forum, i know he is on ecoboostperformance forum as a vendor.
Better idea is to contact the Ortiz Tuning guy on here, see if they sell it with a discount.
Sorry i forget his screenname. Yea my generation we called it a screenname lol.

Ford did the exact same thing with the Thunderbird SC that they did with the SHO (all generations). They don't want their 4 door sedans/rental cars, to outrun the famous 5.0 pony car straight out of the factory.

The EPP intake is very nice. It looks greats, however you have to supplement it with the upgraded turbos for it to really shine. Stock turbos=stock box and K&N. Upgrade Turbos=EPP intake.

I would take the money for the EPP intake and invest it into a GH IC personally.

Who's mike?

Mike owns EcoPowerParts (the site you bought your hot pipes from) he also owns another forum that quite a few members on here frequent. Ecoboostperformanceforum.com It isn't SHO specific, but it is a good resource for all EB platforms.

Its a good forum. If you cant find info here, then its most likely there. More people on there across the platforms who work on their own vehicles, and post more how-tos and just good info when you really have nowhere else to look. Always has been that way as long as i can remember. More drama here though, my alterego lives here.

The factory intake on the SHO is solid. Having tracked & evaluated IATs on a few platforms comparing stock vs. aftermarket intakes, I was very impressed with how close to ambient the temps were.

That said, there are a few dyno sheets floating around that show consistent gains with the EPP intake. Marked it as a down-the-road consideration when hot pipes and a GH intercooler come into play.
