Engine Shim Kit

I am in need of a valve adjustment. I can't get a hold of a rental set with new shims so I'm forced to purchase one. Is there anyone that would like to buy it from me afterward along with the tools?
I'm trying to get this done as soon as possible and this would definately help.

shoman, have you tried sho nut & cincy sho? I thought they rented out kits. If you do buy it keep us posted as I'm sure several of us would be interested in doing our valve adj.

Sho-Nut is usually pretty responsive, but if you can negotiate a discount with your local Ford parts counter guy, you can get them for the same price. The list at my Ford dealer is $3.80 per shim, and I ordered 24 and got a 10 percent discount to bring it to $3.42 per shim. You have to buy each shim size in a packet of two. The tools can be had from a store that carries the OTC line. It's about $30 for the tappet holder and tappet compressor, and you need to have a pick tool and a tool with a magnet to help get the shim out.

I was gonna check at the dealer. My roomate just happens to be a manager at a Ford dealership so I get my parts at cost.
The thing is with renting from shonut and others is that they are used shims and I don't really want that.

There is nothing wrong with a used shim, if the shim is in good shape. Basically, on a well maintained motor shims don't wear. A good used shim works just as well as a new one. Besides, if the motor is in good shape, you'll probably end up replacing no more than 1 or 2.

Last time I checked I think I had about 300 new/used shims in my "collection". Even some of the now rare 2700 series

You can get them froma Yami dealer I learned today from spdatt. I'm in that business so I can get them and a good price. I just noticed that CincySHO has a good price in the tol;l/shim rental thing...didn't even think of trying them...I don't know why it slipped. Anyways, I have an e-mail out to them, to check if they actually have anything.

the shoshop had a rental kit out to me the same week i ordered it, ordered monday, recived it on thursday. it was pretty good, had all the stuff i needed. took them 5-6 weeks to get my $400 credit return right though.

The 2.700mm shims are K&L P/N 13-7649, the 2.750mm shims are K&L P/N 13-7650 and the 2.800mm shims are K&L P/N 13-7651. The come in sets of five for $19.95 retail. That is a higher price than SHO NUT ($3.42ea) or FordPartsOnline.com ($3.00ea)

You can't get the 2.700 and greater form either one. I might be lost here, but what are you saying?

Those were the part numbers and prices of the 29mm diameter Yamaha shims that I purchased through my local Yamaha dealer. SHO NUT (Nick Chrimes) had informed me that Ford no longer stocks the shim sizes greater than 2.675mm.

Scott, I can get the 5 packs for 11.90

They also make a kit of these shims....
2.30-2.40-2.50-2.55-2.60-2.65-2.70-2.75-2.80-2.85-2.90-2.95-3.00-3.10

the kit is 2 of each of these shims and my cost on them is 67.00 dollars.

I wish yamaha had them in smaller increments.
