i have an 89 and today i power washed it with engine degreaser and a power washer and i coverd the distributor and air filter and started spraying . when i was done i took it for a ride and it started putting and running terrible . after a few minutes i started to lose power completly . when i would push on the gas i had extremely slow accel . i got it home and looked under the car and my cats and the exhaust pipe were so hot they were orange . i tried to start it after it cooled and in neutral i'd hit the gas and it would take forever for the rpm's to rise . there is also a very strong raw fuel smell . does anyone know what damage i did to it ??? i'm lost . thaks-

Let the engine dry out and try again tomorrow.

Like I just said recently, don't wash the engine unless you are prepared to deal with consequences. squint

Sounds like you have water in your plug wells. That will **** the spark to the affected cylinder(s) and cause the fuel from it (them) to dump into the cat where it then burns.

Go dry out the plug wells and let the rest of the engine dry out.

projectSHO89 is right. You have water in the wells, and possibly on your coil pack (distributor). Pull the plug wires off at both ends and blow them out with compressed air. Misfires = lots of Nox in the exhaust (way to much for your 3way cats to handle).

Once you get your wires dry, and the miss is gone everything should be fine. You may have melted your cats, but I highly doubt it.

This is why you shouldn't powerwash the SHO engine unless you're ready to deal with the consequences. You have to pull all the spark plug wires out and blast the wells with compressed air.

No, no, no! No more engine washing.

92greensho:
Misfires = lots of Nox in the exhaust (way to much for your 3way cats to handle).
Misfires = unburned fuel coming out of the cylinders that gets combusted in the catalytic converters, making them very hot furnaces.
