Hey guys, We are going to have a Ford EcoBoost Tech at the convention this year speaking on Tuesday after the car show.

We would like to get a feel for the questions ahead of time, if you could please post your questions below that would be fantastic!

Please Keep this as a Engine Q and A only

Thanks, Kirk D

How about, how much boost will each turbo push in stock factory form? I think he should be able to tell us that.

Also, things that I could probably tell by looking but can't because I'm dumb: Does it have internal or external wastegates (I'm thinking internal)? What's with the nickel slots machine handle poking out of the PS air intake? How easy is that engine cover to remove? What size fuel injectors does it have? MAF, MAP, or S/D metering? How much is Ford going to open up the EEC architecture for tuning(I realize I might not get an answer to that)?

And, not to necropost myself, but what is the huge can-looking thing on the front valve cover that says "UP"?

how tuneable is the transmission ECU? can it be tweaked to make things even happier with shifting? also, is there any way to tweak things so the stability/traction control can be disabled? what's the future lookin like for this car? we gonna get some unique body cladding?

It's hideous. Can it be moved? lol

That is the high pressure pump for the DI system. A low pressure pump sends fuel from the tank and then that thing pumps it to over 2175psi into the injectors. It is mechanical and runs off of a rounded square shaped lobe on the cam, so no it cannot be moved. The cap over it is actually another cover with an inch or more of insulating foam, to try and muffle the tapping sound from it. The main engine cover is pretty thick of sound deadening too. I swear it had to have weighed around 15lbs, at least. I could barely hold onto it with one hand while I was taking the pic with the other.

edit: here's a super high res pic of the EcoBoost torn down: http://www.drivingenthusiast.net/sec-ford/FMC-engines/6m35d-ecoboost/EcoBoost_ExploView_02_HR.htm. If you look at the intake cam on the left side, you can see the square lobe in the center of it, which powers the pump. The pump is in the picture just up and to the right of the cam (without the insulation and a fuel line coming out of it). I've also added a link below my engine pic to the higher-res version.
