When I'm on the highway at a constant speed of 80km/h (50mph) and above, and overdrive is off, the engine seems to clunk when I mash the gas pedal. If I gently press down on the gas pedal there is no clunk. Is this a bad front engine mount?

Check the top of your intake manifold, then check the bottom of your hood, if it looks like there are marks from the two touching, then yes it is a mount. Also, does it seem like you have a large amount of tq. steer? When i changed my mount it was ripped and was about to be 2 pieces instead of one.

The intake doesn't always rub.

Check this way: if you haev an automatic, raise the hood, press the brake and gently press the gas.. if your engine rises up over 1 inch you have at least a torn front mount. Do the same procedure but with reverse to check the rear.

If you have a manual you will have to do the same procedure but with the emergency brake on.
