I know alot of people in here are spraying, and it seems as if these engines handle nitrous pretty well. But has anyone put a good amount of miles on their engine, periodically spraying, and seen changes for the worse?

I'm just curious about the long-term effects. I want to spray, but I need my engine to last.

A friend of mine had talked to Larry at FPS, and the Doug's direct port set up came into the conversation. I guess Doug ran that set up for over two years with no problems and no quaife. Maybe he can chime in on this.

I've never heard of nitrous causing any problems from proper use. Its when something goes wrong that the problems occur.

my last SHO was running a ZEX Dry 75-100hp set up....the engine took it like a champ. I did a lot of preventive work up front though...new 255lph pump, new fuel filter, fresh copper plugs every 5K miles, etc... My only problem was I kept blowing up trannys. Differentials don't like drag launches on drag radials with a stage 2 clutch and 100shot.

My 90 SHO has 172k on it. All the maintenance has been done including rod bearings.

I have a 75 Zex kit on it and it loves the juice.

Do the maintenance first then have fun.

i guess w/ Chucks old low CR motor he ran over some 60+ bottles through it? I forgot the exact number of #'s he claimed... It all depends on matinence, and work...
BUT FYI- it will always go, sooner or later- one of the 2.

Well, once I get my car running, it will have new DFL'ed rod bearings, every seal, water pump & housing, timing belt, valve seals, new shims, crank sensor, cleaned out cam chain tensioners, new cam belt tensioner, belts, hoses, and fuel filter. I'd hope I'm good on the maintenance, and if I do go N2O, I'll replace the fuel pump.

Edit: And the tranny is freshly rebuilt with DFL'ed internals, quaife, and new axles.

I dont think Chuck ever sprayed anything on that low compression motor. I thought he was spraying on a stock 3.2 But, i've been wrong before.

IIRC Mark Nunnally ran around 200lb of nitrous (track) through is stock 3.2L with zero problems. Before and after compression readings were nearly identical after 50,000 miles. SHO POWER!

I lost count on how many bottles I used. But I never had a problem (once I figured out the right jets...had them flipped flopped... I melted a valve on a worn out 3.0L "test" motor :D.

I ran the el cheapo $1 autlolite plugs and .040 - .043 main jet (about 100 hp) with never a hic-up. That engine spent the last track weekend outing with a 8500+ rev limiter and it still uses hardly any oil. In fact, it's going in my street SHO in a couple of weeks. Compression is still almost as new...

What if you just ran with regular motocraft plugs and not copper plugs? Would it hurt the engine?

If your worried, and want to run serious N2O, treat it like a built blown motor...

Balance the underside, de-bur, shot-peen, replace rod bearings approprietly.... Get what ever compression you want, forged pistons, have a coat job done to them and the head. Get a tweecer and map it for N2O when your RPM's are high, juice 200-300hp shot, throw on all the other goodies you can get.... Quafi, HBB/BBB (my porting idea! woo), cams, what ever.... :)

I think just doing the normal maintenance and 75 shot would be just fine.

Just do it yourself, its easy. Really easy if you use the ZEX kit.

I have the zex on my SHO, and for some reason it keeps going though the NMU's. I just put a new one on there and it still doesn't work. For some reason it doesn't seem to be upping the FP.

On a side note, im piecing together a direct port fogger system for my Briggs 8hp mini-bike

Sleep7 Platinum and nitrous :nono:
You want to run a colder copper or iridium plug when you boost or spray your car due to the increased heat.
