92 MTX with engine light comes on with loss of power to what seems like running on 3 cylenders. Light goes off and power returns???? I have swapped out the coil, so I know it isn't that. This happens intermitently, with running OK most of the time.

Took it in to put on the computer and codes had coil code (wasn't that) and several dirty mass air flow codes. Could it be as simple as a dirty mass air flow? (Next project)

Anyone have any suggestions for what else could be causing this?

Thanks,
Gregor

My bet is the DIS (the gray plastic thing on the pass. side of the intake) went bad, but definitely clean the MAF before you try swapping parts out.

Thanks,
Should have thought of trying that myself. I cleaned the MAF and only had the engine light come on once for about 10 sec. So far, so good, but will try this if it comes on again.

Post your exact fault codes for better diagnostic assistance. Without them, all we can do is guess.

If the problem continues, also look at the cam sensor (CID), which should set a 211 code. Next time it happens, look to see what the tachometer is showing (no change, rpm loss, zero rpm).
