To help dampen the motion of the engine rocking in the engine mounts. Without them you mounts will fail faster. I replaced mine with torque limiters.

Back in Michigan ... again.
One note on those torque limiters... while they do curtail engine movement pretty well keep in mind that a little movement is necessary. If you button it down with limiters that movement (or lack thereof) is going to take it's toll somewhere. Darth SHO had SS torque limiters when I got it... big surprise then when I found two of them broken.

IMO, dampeners with reinforced mounts are the way to go. If you want things to be solid, get solid motor mounts otherwise you'll break the solid limiters after awhile.

With my urethane mounts, the dampeners are not needed at all. Just ask anyone who watched my dyno in Indiana (or saw my dyno vid). THe motor doesnt move AT ALL.

And honestly, having a direct access to that rear accessory belt tensioner with the rear dampener removed is worth all the trouble

When I talked to Josh (SHO NUT) he said they are not needed with his EXTREME motor mounts, so I got rid of them.
