I have a 3 month old SHO with 900 miles and everytime I run it for about 10 miles or more and park it in the garage I get a smell coming from under the car that I did not fine unusual when the car was totally new. I understand that there is a breakin period where some of the engine paint or undercoatings are too close to hot engine parts and will burn off in a few days or a couple of hundred miles. I can not see any obvious signs of leaking oil like drops on the garage floor or any noticable wet parts noticable under the car without a lift. I have driven the car three long trips of 150 miles or more each time and numerous shorter trips. Due to poor winter weather and an older car to drive on bad days it does have periods of a week from time to time that it does not get driven.

So, is this a long time to still be getting a breakin burning of new parts or should I suspect some problem.

Has anyone else noticed this on their new SHO.

PS, smell does not come into car when it is being driven only after it is parked and I have seen no signs of any smoke.

Thanks for any input.

I get the 'smell' when I am sitting at a stop light or when I first get home and park the car.

Mine was leaking driveline fluid onto the exhaust and causing a bad odor and smoke. this was due to a faulty axle shaft seal. I wish it had burned the car down.

I'm at about 4200 miles and the smell as described above hasn't gone away.

I've also been noticing that my engine is running extremely hard even though I've been taking it easy on the car. 3 out of the last 5 times I've taken the car out my engine is idling extremely loud as soon as I pull it back into the garage. It sounds as though I've driven the thing hard for 1,000miles with the AC blasting even though I simply babied it to the store and back.....(without the AC on)

Is this normal?

Pull your engine cover and see what's living under it. I ordered my car last July and took delivery in early October, and two weeks ago I pulled the cover to see if it was as easy as I had read online (it was, remove oil fill cap and lift straight up and the friction clips release) and found oak leaves packed in on top of the engine and the black foam circular cover chewed up. My car is always in the garage at home and work, and the only time it sat outside was last fall during deer hunting season (2 days). The mice were long gone (hopefully they got too hot and jumped out on the freeway and were hit by a semi!). I'm leaving the cover off. A heated mouse nest could be giving you the bad smell.
