Ok I have done some searching and have not found and aswer that will work. I have a surging problem, under acceleration, light load, heavy load, it surges/bucks. It started suddenly with no syptoms to lead to an answer. Also when i start from a standing stop it backfires sometimes. I have previously replaced the valve cover gaskets along with the spark plug wells and also cast new valve cover bolt seals. So there is no oil in the wells. I changed the cam and crank seals a few months ago also. I have no codes. I tried unplugging the MAF, (plugs and wires 2yrs old) (Motocraft). Fuel pressure is 25 at idle and 30 otherwise. I cleaned the IAB tried another computer. I will cange the cam sensor tonight along with carbon cleaner. I will also run the KOER test tonight.

Your help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Probably the cam sensor. Classic symptoms.

If the duration of a failure does not exceed 6 seconds, the CEL won't be set and there probably won't be a code set.

The time interval can be overridden by entering the "wiggle test" then taking a test drive. If there is an transient prolem, it will then be flagged so you can later retrieve the codes.

I finished the decarbon procedure and did not have time to replace the cam sensor. It's on the list for tonight. I did notice what I can only describe as a spark noise (like when you remove a plug wire when the engine is running, the sound of the electric arc). comming from around the coil pack. I tried looking at night to see if it was arcing to a ground but didn't see anything. would a bad could pack throw a code?

Thanks
