I need to get an Ontario E-test on my car to register it. It failed

1st test I changed

both o2s
thermostat
plugs
cam position sensor

2nd test I changed
ECT

Still no pass it fails on the NO or NOX. I can't figure it out. Normally this is the gas taken care of by egr but since I have no EGR I don't know what to do?

I also am still having issues with the coolant guage. Is it possible for a parts store thermostat to be bad in 2 weeks? BTW I would have used a ford part but they have to order it and I didn't want to wait.

Any ideas?

High NOx means the car is running lean. Surprising since you've got new oxygen sensors.

Wait, its not surprising, you've got a K&N filter. Clean your MAF, the K&N oil is probably coating the filaments, causing it to run lean.

What causes the black soot on the tail pipes? Rich or lean?

Have you thought about pulling the spout connector for the test? Retards (defaults) the timing to 10* BTDC, which in turn could help bring those NOx numbers down.

I could but I think the car should pass the test without doing that. If some guys can pass with a catless y pipe I should be able to pass with cats and good sensors.
