Just wondering if anybody has had problems passing the emissions test. I have replaced both O2 sensors, and MAF ( more of a drivability) problem) and everything passes except for the NOx. I'm thinking that the next step would be the Cats, but I'm not sure. Any ideas would be great. I have a '92 SHO with no mods.

Hey Fish, Just for "grins & giggles" try a bottle of 104 octane boost. I know it sounds stupid, but they have an emitions formula that comes in a green bottle. On the label it says "Guaranteed to pass emitions"

It worked for me to get me through the NJ emitions nazis untill I had enough $$$ to fix the car properly.

That's not a bad idea! I could give it a try. I ahave already used up my three free tries, so now they cost $10 each, but that is still cheaper than $1000 for converters. I just talked to another dealer today, and he is definately sure that it is probably the cats.

Thanks!

I would also try using methyl hydrate in your gas with some high octane gas. This will usually clean up emissions really well. Use about 1 liter (quart) with about a quarter tank of high octane gas.
Drive your car and get it nice and warmed up (freeway) and then go to get it tested.
Once you are done passing your emissions, then go fill up your tank with gas so it will then dilute the methyl hydrate. Make sure that you don't drive with that stuff too long as it is not good for the car for long periods of time.
Let me know what works for you.

My 95 mtx failed a few weeks ago and to get the NOx down I replaced the cats. I got the complete assembly brand new for $250 Canadian cash. For another 100 the guy could have got me a complete stainless steel setup but they were back ordered and I had to wait 4 weeks. If you are going to replace the cats yourself make sure that you have a set of torches. I did the whole job in about two hours in my driveway.

That sounds like a pretty good deal for your converters. I assume that came as a Y-pipe set with the cats. It passed the emissions test just fine then?

Yes it was a complete assembly with the y-pipe. Just had to bolt everthing in. No leaks no nothing. The NOs dropped from 2146 ppm to around 400 ppm. I'm up in Canada just north of Toronto.
The price I paid was in Canadian dollars. Converted to U.S. currency it would be around $160. The guy ordered it from somewhere in the U.S. My local UAP NAPA dealer wanted almost 3 times as much for the same assembly.

Could your contact order cats for me. I live in Ottawa and could easily drive to Toronto to pick them up.
